DESCRIPTION

The Vice President of Academic Affairs, serves as the Chief Academic Officer for Casper College and assists the college in meeting its mission by providing leadership and vision for developing, implementing, and managing all phases of instruction. Reporting to the President, the Vice President of Academic Affairs is a key member of the senior administrative team and provides overall leadership and direction for the college.
The Vice President of Academic Affairs is responsible for managing all phases of instruction, including: the coordination of curriculum development, assessment of all instruction and programs, growth, change in response to the needs of a diverse community and business industry, and identifying and implementing best practices in academic affairs. The position acts as the official liaison to the Higher Learning Commission and ensures the college is in compliance with all related accreditation requirements. The Vice President of Academic Affairs works with regional colleges and universities to build articulation and transfer agreements, and works with secondary school officials to develop and implement cooperative programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution
  • Five (5) years of successful and progressive relevant administration experience in higher education
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the community college
  • Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships
  • Effective communication and leadership skills
  • Commitment to innovation and excellence
  • Demonstrated successful understanding of and commitment to shared, participative, and collaborative governance and decision-making in academic institutions

  • Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate technology
  • Experience in program planning, development and evaluation, curriculum design, faculty evaluation and development, program assessment and resource management
  • Three (3) years of experience teaching in higher education

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Administrative experience at a community college
  • Teaching experience at a community college
  • Knowledge of regional and program accreditation
Responsibilities

The Vice President of Academic Affairs serves as the Chair of the Deans’ Council and is the representative of the President and the Board of Trustees to standing committees, future action teams, and task forces appropriate to the areas of responsibility.

Additional areas of responsibility include:

  • Provide executive leadership and direction for the division of academic affairs including: instruction, assessment, HLC accreditation, digital learning, library services, institutional research, testing center, faculty development, and adult and community education programs.
  • Manage the planning, development, and maintenance of instructional programs and services including transfer, developmental, career, outreach, and Alternative Educational Delivery programs.
  • Plan, develop, and maintain an annual schedule of instruction and services to meet the mission, goals, and objectives of Casper College.
  • Develop and maintain a process for ongoing review and revision of degree requirements, curriculum, instructional programs, and services.
  • Oversee the assessment of all instruction and related academic programs.
  • In collaboration with Deans and other supervisory staff, recommend for hire and supervise all employees in areas of responsibility.
  • Administer the contract requirements of all instructional employees.
  • Develop and monitor the budget for areas of responsibility.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of operations, procedures manuals, training, and evaluation of all employees in areas of responsibility.
  • Establish and maintain agreements with other institutions, agencies, and organizations for the delivery of instruction.
  • In collaboration with Deans and program directors, establish and maintain citizen advisory committees for appropriate instructional programs and services.
  • Routinely advise the Board of Trustees and the President regarding the outcomes and needs of the instructional programs and services of the college.
  • Serve as the College’s co-facilitator of the Natrona County BOCES program and work alongside the associate superintendent of curriculum and instruction from the Natrona County School District.
  • Represent Casper College at appropriate state, national, public, and community groups.
  • Other assignments related to college-wide academic activities or issues.
