Description

ABOUT NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

The National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH) and the National Institute for Reproductive Health Action Fund (NIRH Action Fund) are advocacy groups that fight for just and equitable access to reproductive health care and build political power for reproductive freedom. We launch campaigns, change policy, and elect candidates, all by working hand-in-hand with reproductive health, rights, and justice organizations in states and cities across the country. We work in the communities where the need is great and we can make a difference, so the fabric of reproductive freedom is harder to tear apart.
The National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH) and the National Institute for Reproductive Health Action Fund (NIRH Action Fund) are seeking a full-time Vice President of Campaigns and Political Strategy to help them in building political power for reproductive freedom.
This is a benefits eligible, full-time, exempt position that will require 35 hours of work, with flexibility, during eastern time business hours, Monday to Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM. The annual salary for this position is between $140,000 to $160,000, commensurate with experience.

WHO WE ARE

The National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH) and the National Institute for Reproductive Health Action Fund (NIRH Action Fund) are advocacy groups that fight for just and equitable access to reproductive health care and build political power for reproductive freedom. For decades, our strategy has been to go on the offensive, at the state and local level, so we have a long track record of passing laws that are safeguarding and advancing access.
In states and cities across the country, we launch campaigns, change policy, and elect candidates who champion our cause, all by working hand-in-hand with reproductive health, rights, and justice organizations; health care providers; and other groups invested in this fight. We partner in communities where change is needed and where we can make a difference. At the national level, we engage in groundbreaking public opinion research, proactive policy initiatives, and innovative advocacy campaigns to help reshape the national conversation about reproductive freedom.
Our approach to advocacy, policy, and politics strives to center the people who are most impacted by barriers to care, historically underserved, and often under-represented — Black women and Black communities, Indigenous and other communities of color, low-income people, and immigrants.
We don’t just push back against restrictions on reproductive autonomy; we fight for a society in which everyone has the freedom and ability to control their reproductive and sexual lives.

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

The Vice President of Campaigns and Political Strategy is a senior strategist responsible for leading impactful, partner-driven political and advocacy work at the state and local levels. Reporting to the President, the Vice President directs NIRH and the NIRH Action Fund’s dual-track political and advocacy strategy to drive policy change and build power for reproductive freedom.
This includes oversight and management of 1) NIRH AF’s investment partner organizations in target states and cities; including providing technical assistance, strategic guidance, and funding to help scale impact, enhance electoral strategy, and support key policy fights; and 2) NIRH AF’s direct engagement efforts including political strategy, narrative influence, and candidate development. Outcomes include electoral gains, policy shifts, and foundation-laying for long-term infrastructure. In these settings, the VP may lead candidate trainings, relationship-building with electees, or convene municipal leaders to anchor long-term influence.
The Vice President plays a critical role in aligning this work with internal departments (Policy, Partnerships, Communications, Development) and embedding evaluation metrics to assess short- and long-term impact. This is a public-facing, team-leadership role that requires vision, discipline, political and campaign strategy, and deep partnership skills.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Design and implement a clear, measurable, and impact-driven political strategy across target states and cities.
  • Direct strategic partnership and direct engagement approaches, tailoring tactics to local context and opportunity.
  • Partner with internal leadership to shape NIRH’s engagement in ballot measures and campaigns, ensuring a unified and strategic approach across departments.
  • Cultivate and deepen relationships with partners, elected officials, and coalitions.
  • Support technical assistance and coaching to partners in advocacy, power mapping, and electoral planning.
  • Lead candidate training programming and efforts.
  • Engage directly with voters, candidates, and decision-makers to secure wins and shift policy.
  • Guide NIRH’s political and advocacy strategy in New York State while supporting the identification of future opportunities for geographic growth and impact.
  • Monitor and assess state and national political landscapes to guide organizational strategy.
  • Develop and oversee learning and evaluation frameworks to assess the impact of political programming and inform strategic adaptation.
  • Support consultant management and plan for future team hiring with the Finance and Operations team to support growth as the program scales.
  • Partner with Communications to amplify political and narrative wins, coordinate messaging, and ensure alignment across C3 and C4 platforms.
  • Collaborate with Development and Finance to sustain, track, and report program work, as well as to sustain and grow the political and advocacy program.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and 527 guidelines, in collaboration with compliance and operations leadership.
