  • Education: Equivalent to a college degree in Accounting, Finance or related business degree, plus a CPA or graduate degree in accounting, finance or related

  • Maintain knowledge with training in BSA Compliance - every staff member is required to uphold the credit union’s compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Customer Identification Program (CIP), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) policies and procedures. This includes required BSA reporting. Specific functions such as tellers and front-line staff within Spero Financial will take into consideration the awareness of unusual or suspicious activity that is relevant to the department and report such activity.
  • In addition to any other assigned training courses, BSA, CIP, OFAC and AML related courses must be completed at least annually, as made available by the Training and/or Compliance Departments. Required to maintain comprehensive knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, Customer Identification Program, USA Patriot Act, and Office of Foreign Assets Control requirements. Comply with all Spero policies and procedures to ensure compliance with such regulations.

Responsibilities

ROLE

Responsible for directing, coordinating, maintaining and controlling the financial functions of the Credit Union, including budgeting, general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, asset and liability management, capital expenditures, and investment activities. Plays a key role in executing the Credit Union’s strategic financial goals, serving as a resource on financial matters. Ensures accurate financial reporting and compliance with GAAP and all applicable state and federal regulations.
The VP of Finance will be positioned on the CFO Successor Track, collaborating closely with the current CFO to exhibit strong strategic thinking, effective planning, and the ability to lead, develop talent, and engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishes the development and implementation of financial information and control systems, including ALM, general ledger, budgeting, accounts payable, payroll, and other subsystems, the operations, policies and procedures of these systems to protect Credit Union assets.
  • Establishes appropriate goals and objectives for various risk categories including credit volume, interest rates, liquidity levels, and pricing structures; identifies and measure the effect of related risk factors on the Credit Union; assists upper levels of management in evaluating and determining risk levels.
  • Oversees development and preparation of daily, monthly, annual and other periodic financial statements and reports; ensures that records and reports are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and government regulations; ensures that external document submissions and filings are accurate and timely
  • Provides strategic financial leadership for the Credit Union’s asset liability management and investments
  • Builds, develops and manages the finance team, coordinates functions with other departments to carry out strategic objectives and initiatives.
  • Recommends and leads efforts to improve financial performance of the Credit Union. Stays abreast of trends, GAAP practices, and regulations to ensure effectiveness and compliance for the finance functions. Performs other job related duties as assigned
