Description Position Title: Vice President of Finance Accountability: Vice President of Finance reports to the CEO/Executive Director Job Classification: Full-time, salary, exempt – benefits eligible. Compensation: $85,000 – $100,000 annual salary About: Daniel Stowe Conservancy (Stowe) inspires a love of nature and its beauty through unforgettable outdoor experiences. The nearly 400 acres of Stowe provides visitors with a chance to reconnect with nature in all seasons. The property welcomes guests to spectacular gardens, a conservatory dedicated to the display of tropical plants, sparkling fountains, 8 miles of trails, a dog park and 3 distinct retail locations. The Vice President of Finance reports to the CEO / Executive Director and has the primary responsibility to oversee and direct financial, accounting, and investment activities in support of Stowe. The person in this role will oversee all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, cash and investment management, and compliance requirements. Working closely with the CEO / Executive Director to develop and implement financial strategies that support the organization’s mission and goals and long-term future. Responsibilities: Understands the importance of each guest to Stowe and drives excellence to ensure an optimal experience in every way. Leads all accounting and finance functions, including but not limited to accounts payable and accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, general ledger, journal entries, and the timely completion of the monthly closing process and preparation of related financial reports. Oversees all accounts, ledgers, and accounting reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. Develops and leads the financial strategy and direction of Stowe, ensuring financial efficiencies. Establishes, monitors and reports on key performance indicators tied to financial health. Performs the daily internal work, including but not limited to AP / AR, reconciliations, vendor management, reporting, general ledger, and budget management. Guides the Executive Director / CEO and members of the Senior Team in strategic financial planning and review. Provides transparent and timely reporting to the Executive Director / CEO, Board Finance Committee, and Board of Directors. Prepares for and leads the annual audit and serves as the point of contact through all audit phases. Prepares and submits the documentation for appropriate state solicitation licenses and other necessary licenses and permits. Leads audit and tax compliance, ensuring adherence to GAAP, FASB, and IRS requirements. Supports the annual budgeting and planning process along with CEO and Senior team. Administers and monitors the implementation of annual budgets, reviewing monthly with Senior Team, communicating on a timely basis, the financial health of the organization. Manages, and reports on cash flow projections, monitoring cash position daily and closely. Manages all financial, project/program, and grants accounting, including reimbursements and reporting. Actively participates in senior team meetings, providing financial leadership for Stowe. Develops and implements financial policies and procedures that maintain an effective internal control environment with proper segregation of duties, overseeing adherence to policies. Exemplifies the Stowe Mission Statement and supports staff, departments and leadership in pursuing and achieving goals. May perform any other duties needed to help drive to our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our values. Requirements Exhibits a passion for the mission of Daniel Stowe Conservancy. Successfully pass a standard background review. This position is hybrid but requires most work on-site. Must be willing to serve all guests equally regardless of their race, color, religion, national origin, age, gender, marital status, disability, veteran status, genetic information, gender identity and/or sexual orientation. Experience & Education: Strong organizational and time management skills. CPA credentials strongly preferred. Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field of study required. 10+ years of broad finance experience, ideally in accounting, followed by at least 5 years in financial leadership positions. Non-Profit finance experience preferred. Ability to manage sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Comfortable speaking to a wide range of people and customizing communication accordingly. The flexibility and resiliency to work well under pressure and quickly adapt to rapidly changing needs and priorities.
