EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent). o Work experience may substitute for education requirements.
  • Minimum of ten years of responsible management experience required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in the Medical industry Organ/Tissue or Eye donation required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of Products; i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS Project, etc.
  • Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) or Certified Eye Bank Specialist (CEBT) preferred within 18 months of employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Leadership and management experience; knowledge of behaviors conforming to all appropriate state and federal labor laws and in a style consistent with leadership philosophies around employee engagement.
  • Demonstrate a strong background in health care management which includes strategic planning and change management, budgeting, operational streamlining, coaching, and performance improvement.
  • Knowledge of the policies and procedures used in budget preparation, justification, monitoring and reporting.
  • Strong working knowledge of aseptic technique, applicable state and federal regulations, American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB), Eye Bank Association of America Medical Standards, and LWVI standard operating procedures.
  • Strong interpretive/analytical skills.
  • Strong timemanagement/planning/organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (in both oral and written forms) across all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of medical and ophthalmic terminology
  • Must read and write English.

Responsibilities

POSITION PURPOSE

The Vice President of Operations position is a key member of the Lions World Vision Institute (LWVI) Leadership team. The position is responsible for the leadership of all operational functions, including the development and implementation of strategic plans focused on guiding and developing quality and efficiency. The position provides leadership oversight and general direction to the Director of Quality & Regulatory Affairs, Director of Recovery Services, Director of Donation Services, Director of Partner Relations, Manager of Donor Eligibility, Manager of Family Services, and the Performance Optimization team to ensure optimal outcomes are achieved, goals are set and met and compliance with all LWVI Policies and Procedures, American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB), Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA) Medical Standards and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Good Tissue Practices (GTP’s).
The VP is also a key representative of LWVI in the donation, tissue and ophthalmology communities.

ESSENTIALS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports the Mission, Vision, and Values of LWVI and exhibits a commitment to organ, tissue and eye donation.
  • Manages effective staffing and execution of all aspects of LWVI operations.
  • Provides routine feedback to the LWVI management team to continually enhance and develop operations.
  • Evaluate all aspects of ocular and tissue donor coordination, recovery, processing, distribution, and educational activities and interact with the Chief Operating Officer and appropriate staff to implement improvements.
  • Maintains the quality of the eye bank and tissue recovery processes including compliance with regulatory agencies such as the FDA, Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, EBAA, AATB, and any other organization with regulatory authority over the department.
  • Ensures team adherence to the quality assurance and technical policies and procedures to maintain the highest quality surgical and research tissue available. Manage Director of Partner Relations to ensure professional education and hospital and community donation programs are developed with contracted facilities.
  • Ensures eye and tissue donor optimization to improve recipient outcomes and drive organizational growth.
  • Oversees Performance Optimization Team and ensures effective prioritization of operational reporting requests and initiatives to drive performance improvement.
  • Facilitates relations with partner tissue and organ recovery agencies in our service areas.
  • Develops and maintains annual operational budget.
  • Maintains contractual relationships with other tissue banks.
  • Directs personnel management and evaluations of LWVI personnel.
  • Responsible for ensuring the Tampa company grounds and building is safe and functional.
  • Negotiates contracts with service providers, inspects facilities to meet safety regulations, and coordinates renovations and updates.
  • Represents LWVI in Eye Bank Association of America, Vision Share, American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB), and other professional organizations through committee or other vital participation.
  • Routinely attends and represents LWVI at professional conferences.
  • Develop leadership and management skills of key LWVI Operations staff.
  • Stay informed of industry standards and regulations as related to donor or tissuerelated issues.
  • Foster a successoriented, accountable environment within the organization.
