About the role: The Vice President of Operations will be a key member of the leadership team, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer. This individual will provide strategic oversight and operational leadership for multiple hospice agencies, ensuring that performance, quality, and patient care align with Luminary’s mission and standards. The VP of Operations will serve as a thought partner to the COO, drive operational excellence, and support agency leaders in achieving growth and compliance objectives. Job Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership & Partnership Partner with the COO to shape and execute Luminary’s operational strategy, aligning agency performance with enterprise goals. Serve as a key advisor to the COO and executive leadership team, providing insights on field operations, workforce trends, and market dynamics. Lead with a “patient-first” mindset, ensuring every decision reflects Luminary’s mission and values. Agency Operations Oversight Provide direct leadership, mentorship, and accountability to Executive Directors and agency leadership teams across multiple markets. Standardize and scale operational processes, ensuring consistency in patient care delivery and staff experience across agencies. Drive adherence to performance benchmarks (clinical quality, patient satisfaction, regulatory compliance, census growth, and financial outcomes). Ensure agencies are staffed appropriately and equipped with resources to deliver high-quality, timely care. Performance Management & Continuous Improvement Establish a robust framework for monitoring agency KPIs, conducting regular reviews, and implementing corrective action where needed. Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, streamline workflows, and reduce costs without compromising care quality. Introduce best practices and foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and operational excellence. Oversee quality improvement initiatives in partnership with the clinical leadership team. Compliance & Risk Management Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements governing hospice care. Stay current on regulatory changes and guide agencies in proactively adapting policies and procedures. Partner with Compliance to conduct audits, implement corrective action plans, and mitigate risk. People Leadership & Culture Mentor and develop agency leaders, equipping them with tools and coaching to succeed. Partner with HR and Talent Acquisition to strengthen recruitment, retention, and workforce planning strategies. Champion Luminary’s culture, ensuring staff feel valued, supported, and aligned to the mission. Lead through influence, building trust and engagement across all levels of the organization. Business Growth & Market Expansion Collaborate with business development teams to assess new markets, support agency start-ups, and drive census growth. Provide operational due diligence and integration support for acquisitions. Monitor competitive landscapes and help position Luminary as the hospice provider of choice in its markets. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with clinical leadership to ensure operational decisions support exceptional patient outcomes. Work closely with finance on budgeting, forecasting, and margin improvement strategies. Collaborate with IT and systems leaders to optimize tools, technology, and reporting for field operations. Job Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in healthcare administration, business, or related field preferred. 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations, with hospice or post-acute experience strongly preferred. Proven track record of leading multi-site operations and driving performance improvements. Deep knowledge of regulatory requirements in hospice and home health. Strong financial and operational acumen. Excellent leadership, communication, and change management skills. Ability to travel regularly to Luminary Hospice agencies.
