This position leads the strategy, development, and launch of artificial intelligence products by bridging business goals with technical AI capabilities and data science for a major Optum Insight product domain. Under the direction of the Senior Vice President, this position is responsible for leading the entire product lifecycle, from understanding market needs, designing experiments to validate hypotheses and designing new products/capabilities to ensure a compelling go-to-market strategy in close collaboration with key stakeholders from across the Optum enterprise. The Vice President, Product Management requires a unique blend of traditional product management skills and deep knowledge of AI/machine learning concepts, MLOps, data quality, and ethical AI practices. Manages a specific good or service available externally on the market that can be sold stand-alone, and that directly generates revenue. Responsible for the full product lifecycle management, including: strategy, design, development, management and end of life of new, existing or acquisition products. Leverage market insights to understand market/customer needs to identify new opportunities or make adjustments to current product offerings. Accountable for delivering product performance against expectations and updates changes to a product portfolio to improve competitive position, and optimal product performance to meet customer and market needs. Accountable to and/or own the P&L. Partner with internal or external stakeholders (key customers, product partnerships, etc.) to define and drive future product direction. Impact of work is most often at the business segment or enterprise level. Primary Responsibilities: Product Strategy: Define and execute product transformation strategy, launching new products and transitioning existing products, including go to market approach, B2B customer messaging, pricing, operational readiness, etc. Develops a portfolio of products, based on market and customer needs by bridging business goals with technical AI capabilities and data science Product Delivery: Deliver assigned product portfolio on time, to quality and customer requirements through a unique blend of traditional product management skills and deep knowledge of AI/machine learning concepts, MLOps, data quality, and ethical AI practices. Leads multiple product suites through all lifecycle stages, including developing coherent to exceed financial, operational and customer targets Pursues product ideas and improvements through “disruptive innovation Stakeholder Management: Communicate product strategy and roadmap to customers individually, in groups and industry forums, keep solid engagement throughout product lifecycle Develops solid internal partnerships to achieve goals including engineering, operations, customer channels, sales, marketing, legal and compliance Solves complex problems with stakeholders using knowledge and experience in multiple product domains, technical skills, solid verbal and written communication skills People Management: Mentors and inspires team functional leaders as well as a group of Product Managers / Directors Initiates involvement and input from appropriate levels of leadership during decision making processes. Maintains high level of confidentiality / integrity at all times Manages contractor or consultant relationships Provides leadership to and is accountable for the performance and results of diverse or broad functions through multiple layers of management Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regard to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). The Company may adopt, vary or rescind these policies and directives in its absolute discretion and without any limitation (implied or otherwise) on its ability to do so Required Qualifications: Bachelors degree in engineering, computer science or related field of study 20+ years of experience in a product organization or product related role with direct client or customer-facing responsibilities 5+ years of experience leading a product team and developing a product portfolio Proven experience supporting execution of complex programs / projects and / or enterprise transformations Experience in working in multi-disciplinary teams and in complex matrix relationships Proven experience in leading and collaborating with global leadership teams to drive strategic initiatives and deliver impactful results Deep knowledge of AI/machine learning concepts, MLOps, data quality, and ethical AI practices Possesses proven ability to communicate complex issues and strategies with key leaders and customers Domestic and international travel 25%25 Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree in engineering, computer science or related field of study 10+ years of experience leading a team and developing a portfolio in a healthcare, technology, or product organization or related field Keen understanding of current healthcare and technology marketplace including competitors and emerging trends in automation / AI / ML adoption for client driven solutions Demonstrates the ability to organize and to prioritize work in a diverse, fast paced environment while working on multiple projects simultaneously and complete assignments At UnitedHealth Group, our mission is to help people live healthier lives and make the health system work better for everyone.
