Job Purpose Ensure UTP moves to the forefront of education excellence worldwide, by leading the development and implementation of highly innovative approaches to teaching and learning that ensure continued development of domain expertise in our students, but additionally should encompass values, real world capabilities and experiences that build whole humans with appreciation, understanding and interests beyond science, engineering and technology.   To achieve this, the Vice-Provost will work closely with the senior leadership of the Academic Division, including Deans, Vice Provosts and the Registrar, and take particular responsibility for matters of Education Innovation & Development, Education Quality & Governance and our Information Resources Centre.   Key Accountabilities:   Lead – Education Innovation & Development The most important leadership role for the Vice Provost is to establish the vision for a highly innovative approach to teaching and learning and ensure we have a clear plan of engagement and staff development to achieve this. This includes leading and working with colleagues from Education Innovation & Development (formerly CeTAL) to identify innovative, modern approaches to pedagogy and provide motivation, training and support to academic colleagues across the University to incorporate those approaches into their teaching.   Lead – Education Quality & Governance The Vice Provost is the senior position ensuring that the University understands statutory responsibilities and requirements from the Ministry and other accreditors. Leading and working with colleagues in Education Quality & Governance the Vice Provost must ensure academic colleagues are aware of such requirements and are implementing them, and that the University has a clear process for assuring itself of the implementation.   Lead – Information Resource Centre The Vice Provost is responsible for leadership and oversight of the University IRC, comprising the Library and various electronic repositories and services provided to academic staff and students to support research and education. Working closely with the IRC leadership team the Vice Provost will ensure our Library and related services provide appropriate support and enhancement to our academic endeavours in an efficient and effective manner.   Lead - Departmental Administration and Divisional Covering Manage the administration of EID, EQG and IRC by executing all administrative tasks such as budget and leave management, staff training and performance evaluation, and mentoring and guiding other executives in daily tasks in addition to the occasional covering of divisional administration to ensure smooth and continued operations of the department and division. From time to time the Vice Provost may be called upon to deputise for the Provost.   Collaborate – Academic Leadership The Vice Provost for Education Excellence is a key member of the senior group of staff leading education an research activity across the University. As such the Vice Provost plays a key role in the development of overall academic strategy to fulfil the University Vision and Mission.   Qualification & Experience:   Necessary Experience * Significant academic experience including leadership relating to teaching and learning   Desirable Experience * Leadership in education at sector, University-wide or Faculty level, ideally driving change that transforms the student experience by identifying and deploying highly innovative approaches to teaching and learning including some or all of Artificial Intelligence, industry-engagement and professional certification, internationalisation, problem-based learning, values-based education or entrepreneurship * Leadership of university or Faculty approaches to education quality and governance including some or all of meeting ministry requirements, student and outcome surveys, annual programme review, accreditation or external advisory contributors * Leadership of information resources facilities, including ensuring modern approaches are developed and deployed for provision of access to relevant academic resources that support education and research * Collaborative leadership, working with Deans, Department Chairs, and other senior managers to drive excellence and transformation in education   Minimum requirements: * Recognised Doctor of Philosophy degree in a relevant field * Exceptional proficiency in both written and verbal communication, essential for academic leadership and stakeholder engagement * Outstanding interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration across diverse academic and administrative communities * Strong analytical capabilities, enabling strategic decision-making and effective problem-solving in complex institutional contexts
Responsibilities
Lead the development of innovative teaching and learning approaches to ensure education excellence and the development of whole-human capabilities. Oversee education quality, governance, and the University Information Resource Centre while collaborating with senior leadership on academic strategy.
