MINIMUMS: Requires a combination of higher education and/or experience equivalent to four (4) years in social work, criminal justice or related field which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Responsibilities

The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney is responsible for prosecuting those charged with violating the criminal laws of Virginia in Virginia Beach. We are seeking a full-time caseworker within our grant Victim Witness program.
Caseworkers assist with the overall administration of the Victim-Witness Program and coordinate services for citizens who participate in the Criminal Justice System. This individual will carry a full docket working with victims and witnesses of crime; maintain contact with victims and witnesses via phone, email, postal mail as well as in person; keeping them informed on matters related to their case.
Other duties include coordinate interviews, assist with court appearances and other services; assist victims and witnesses with escorting them to court cases; assist prosecutors with interviews and court cases; maintain case files, record monthly statistical information; help plan and coordinate activities for National Victims’ Rights Week; provide backup to other staff when necessary and other duties as required.
Preferences for this position include: Experience working with victims and/or witnesses of crime, Experience working in the Virginia Beach Criminal Justice System, Experience working with a Virginia State Criminal Court, Experience working with clients in a confidential manner, Professional background in victim advocacy, social work, counseling, or related field, Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and victim-related documentation, Experience working with multiple government agencies in performance of duties, multilingual, specifically Spanish.
