Description

The National Inventors Hall of Fame is seeking a video director to lead the creative visual storytelling of our world-changing Inductees. In this role, you will serve as a front-facing, positive and enthusiastic representative of NIHF creating in-depth mini-documentaries that illuminate the dramatic lives of inventors. At the same time, delivering on the strategic objectives of NIHF, our partners and the Inductees themselves.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Develop and conceptualize video projects in alignment with the overall vision and objectives of the video production manager.
  • Lead creative brief development, script development and work with the team on pre-production planning.
  • Coordinate and manage on-set activities, ensuring all crew members are aligned with the project goals.
  • Direct performances and provide clear, constructive feedback to subjects and talent.
  • Guide the work of videographers, camera operators, and lighting technicians to ensure high-quality footage.
  • Collaborate with the production team to select locations, design sets, and plan logistics.
  • Ensure that all video content aligns with branding guidelines and messaging strategies.
  • Work with the editor, providing information and feedback for any necessary revisions.
  • Manage the post-production process, including sound mixing, special effects, and color grading.
  • Monitor industry trends and new technologies to keep the production process current.
  • Lead multiple complex and simultaneous video projects from pre-production through post-production.
  • Must be able to direct, operate cameras and edit.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard camera equipment and technologies.
  • Excellent leadership and project management skills.

  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Knowledge of current industry trends and best practices.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must balance the needs of Inductees, outside partners and multiple inter-office departments on every shoot.
  • Meet with the Executive Team to review creative briefs and final mini-documentary edits.
  • Flexibility to work long hours and stress tolerance to manage tight deadlines.
  • Must be willing to travel on remote location, within the United States, 12-16 times per year.

CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Film Production, Fine Arts, or a related field.
  • 5 years experience as a Director at a production house, corporate in-house creative team or related experience.
  • Experience directing documentaries or bio-pictures is preferred.
  • Expert understanding of how to win trust and earn faith of the subjects/talent.
  • Experience in writing, developing and pitching creative concepts.
  • Creative editor in Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Proficient in Adobe After Effects.
  • Proficient at DaVinci Color Grading.
  • Gifted videographer with Sony Burano, Sony FX6, Blackmagic Ursa.
  • Skills operating a Steadicam is a major plus.
  • Experience directing marketing and brand commercials is preferred.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of successful video projects.
