Description

ABOUT FOODLABS

At FoodLabs, we invest in and build pioneering companies at the intersection of food, agriculture, health, and sustainability. The way we produce food is undergoing a radical transformation—driven by advances in synthetic biology, computational modeling, precision fermentation, and cultivated proteins. As bioreactors replace farmland and AI accelerates bio-based innovations, we see an unprecedented opportunity to redefine how we feed the world.
We’ve backed trailblazers like Formo (animal-free dairy), Meatable (cultivated meat), and Klim (decarbonizing the food supply chain). But challenges remain. Global food production still contributes 26% of all man-made emissions, while food insecurity is rising, exacerbated by climate change and geopolitical disruptions.
That’s why we’re expanding our team. We’re looking for a Visiting Analyst to join our Berlin office for 4 to 6 months, working alongside our pre-seed investment team and venture-building team to identify breakthrough technologies, evaluate scientific innovations, and support founders shaping the next wave of food and agriculture solutions.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for a sharp, resourceful, and proactive thinker who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment and brings a strong scientific foundation combined with a curiosity for venture building.

CORE SKILLS & TRAITS

  • Scientific Expertise & Analytical Thinking You can evaluate complex scientific advancements, assess technical feasibility, and identify commercialization potential.
  • Passion for Deep Tech & Entrepreneurship You’re excited about turning scientific discoveries into real-world applications and scaling breakthrough innovations.
  • Strong Research & Communication Skills You can synthesize insights, distill complex scientific concepts into clear narratives, and communicate effectively with scientists, founders, and investors.
  • Independent & Execution-Focused You take ownership of projects, are comfortable working autonomously, and move fast while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Fluency in English is required; German is a plus.
If you’re curious, ambitious, and ready to work at the forefront of food innovation, we’d love to hear from you.
Responsibilities

As a Visiting Analyst, you’ll play a key role in our research, investment, and venture-building efforts. You will:

  • Lead scientific research across TechBio, SynBio, AgriTech, Climate Science, and Life Sciences, mapping out emerging trends, breakthrough technologies, and white-space opportunities.
  • Source and evaluate early-stage science-driven ventures, primarily across Europe and the US, identifying high-potential startups and academic spinouts.
  • Engage with founders and portfolio companies, supporting them in market validation, scientific due diligence, and strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with our Entrepreneurs in Residence (EIRs) to help validate and refine their business ideas, ensuring technical feasibility and commercial potential.
  • Take ownership of key research and investment workstreams, from developing investment theses to supporting deal execution and portfolio growth.
  • Expand our network by attending conferences, academic events, and startup meetups, strengthening FoodLabs’ presence in the deep-tech and scientific communities.

This is a hands-on role with real responsibility. You’ll have a front-row seat to the venture-building process and work directly with founders, investors, and scientists who are shaping the future of food and sustainability.
