New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development invites applications for a non-tenure track, Visiting Assistant Professor in Clinical/Counseling Psychology. The position will begin September 1, 2025. The appointed faculty member will be a member of the Department of Applied Psychology. This is a one-year non-renewable appointment. The Clinical/Counseling Psychology PhD program aims to address human struggling and suffering by training the next generation of psychologists with strong social justice values and integration of psychological science. We follow an evidence-based practice model of intervention as defined by the American Psychological Association.
We seek applicants who can teach (across all levels, from undergraduate to master’s to doctoral classes) and provide clinical supervision for students in the Counseling M.A. program and the APA-approved Clinical/Counseling Psychology PhD program, as well as support clinical and research activities in the Clinical/Counseling Psychology program’s training clinic.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher, advisor, and mentor to students; and serve on program, department, School, and University committees. Visiting Faculty also often engage in scholarly work or creative production. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate, masters, and doctoral level classes, possibly including a course in ethical and professional issues in health service psychology. Clinical supervision will include, but is not limited to, evidence-based (e.g., CBT, ACT, DBT) supervision of doctoral students conducting individual therapy. Additional responsibilities include working closely with the Director of the training clinic to provide clinical and research support assistance. Exact job duties will be discussed at hiring.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should have a doctoral degree in Counseling, School, Clinical, or related area of psychology from an APA-accredited program, completed internship in an APA-accredited program, licensed psychologist (or postdoctoral or license eligible) in NY. Strong candidates for this position will have a background in teaching and supervising students at the graduate level.
