VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR – Earth Sciences, University of Memphis. Memphis, TN.   Position: The Department of Earth Sciences seeks candidates for an EARTH SCIENTIST at the rank of VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR. The position is a nine-month appointment for the 2026-2027 academic year. The successful candidate will teach as many as three sections each semester, most of which will be at the introductory undergraduate level. The Department of Earth Sciences teaches seven introductory general education courses (weather and climate, landforms, physical geology, the earth through time, the human planet, survey of world regions and cultural geography). The visiting assistant professor will join an interdisciplinary program with degree concentrations in geoarchaeology, geography, geology, and environmental sciences. The University of Memphis is recognized by the Carnegie Foundation as one of two public research universities and the only community engaged public university in Tennessee. the University serves a population of 22,000 students including 5,000 graduate students. The university has a strongly commitment to its urban mission. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have demonstrated teaching experience at the undergraduate level to include introductory courses. While there is a preference for experience teaching geography courses, all earth scientists will be considered. A PhD in an Earth Science related field is preferred; ABD applicants will also be considered. The successful candidate will be committed to undergraduate teaching and working in a collegial, collaborative, and interdisciplinary environment.
