JOB SUMMARY

The School of History and Sociology (HSOC) at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology, Gender, and Technology. The position will begin in August 2025. We seek a candidate who can teach introductory courses in sociology, as well as courses related to gender and technology/science. The School prefers candidates who can also teach other courses related to the Minor in Women, Science, and Technology. The teaching load is two courses per semester. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentoring of students.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Ph.D. in sociology, science and technology studies (STS), gender studies, or a related field at the start of the appointment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • The successful candidate should have experience teaching introductory courses in sociology, as well as courses related to gender, science, and/or technology.
  • The successful candidate should have evidence of teaching excellence.
  • The ability to design and teach curricula that are responsive to a distinct student body.
  • The ability to design and teach courses that take place in person and remotely.
  • The ability to engage students in learning practices that support student success.
  • The ability to engage in teaching and service activities within the School, the Institute, and the broader academic and professional communities.
Responsibilities
  • Candidates will teach 2 courses per semester, including introductory sociology courses and courses related to gender and science/technology.
  • Candidates will hold office hours for these courses, answer emails, grade assessments, provide feedback, and perform other job duties associated with teaching courses.
  • Candidates may teach online courses in the Spring of 2026; however, this is not required.
