DEPARTMENT SUMMARY

The UNT Division of Music Education is one of the largest and most reputable music teacher preparation programs in the United States, with 9 full-time faculty, 8 full-time Ph.D. students, a robust summer master’s program, and an undergraduate student body of over 350. Music Education faculty have a broad array of teaching and research interests, and opportunities for collaboration with the College of Music’s renowned performance and scholarly programs are plentiful.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The University of North Texas College of Music Division of Music Education invites applications for a one-year position at the rank of Visiting Lecturer or Visiting Senior Lecturer in Music Education with an official start date of September 1, 2025.
Duties: 4/4 teaching load. Teach classes as assigned by the Chair of the Division of Music Education, such as elementary-general methods, early childhood music methods, and introduction to music education. Supervise student teachers. Provide service to the Division, College, University, and Profession as appropriate, in consultation with the Chair.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in music education. Expertise as an elementary-general music educator. A minimum of 3 years teaching experience in the elementary-general music classroom.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Doctorate or ABD status in music education; evidence of successful college teaching; evidence of potential to work with public and private school music teachers in settings such as guest clinics, professional music education conferences, and in-service workshops. Experience and expertise in one or more elementary-general music education methods is desirable (e.g., Orff, Kodály, Dalcroze, MLT).
