Sussex County Community College is seeking a Part Time Visual Arts Assistant. The Part Time Visual Arts Assistant must be able to work as part of a team demonstrating passion for art, design and education. Understand the importance of open labs/studios as being a requirement of successful student curriculum completion and graduation. This role would be an excellent opportunity to work with professional artists, educators and mentor students offering guidance. The ideal candidate would be a detail-oriented professional motivated to assist with all aspects of the art and design classrooms, and provide hands-on open studios in a variety of art genres. This position would also involve assistance with supply requests, supply distribution, organization of supply areas, creating and maintaining inventories including cataloging art collections, and the set up and attendance of subject area events.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in art, design or related field.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and the ability to learn applied technologies as it related to art and design.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Previous experience in an art/design educational environment.

    Salary: $22.00 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Communicate clearly, empathetically, and respectfully with all faculty, staff and students.
  • Completes any and all college required and position-related training.
  • Assist in the management of all aspects of the art and design classrooms and labs/studios.
  • Oversee art and design open lab/studios.
  • Keep classrooms and lab/studios areas organized and encourage students to clean up after themselves during open lab/studios.
  • Assist in identifying and creating electronic supply and equipment lists for classes and lab/studios.
  • Maintain an inventory of all supplies, equipment and catalogs art collections.
  • Upkeep all supply closets and cabinets for ease of access and organization.
  • Assist in the support of the purchasing process from management of requisitions, where appropriate, the arrival and distribution of supplies and equipment, and moving paperwork forward for payment.
  • Reports mishaps, equipment failure immediately to the Department Chair or appropriate person.
  • Assist in developing content and executing marketing materials across various channels (print, social media, email, etc.).
  • Assist with event planning, logistics for promotional activities and attends events when requested.
  • Performs other duties, related to the department, as assigned.
