Job Summary Under the direction of the E-Commerce & Digital Card Manager, the Visual Communications Assistant produces compelling visual assets for the UBC Bookstore. The role strikes a balance between creative freedom and brand standards, ensuring that every image and video enhances the Bookstore’s online presence and fosters engagement with the UBC community. This is an excellent entry‑level opportunity where the successful candidate will gain experience in studio and lifestyle photography, alongside design and video production for retail. Organizational Status Reports to the E-Commerce & Digital Card Manager within the UBC Bookstore. Works in coordination with the Senior Digital Content and Marketing Manager for Student Housing and Community Services (SHCS) and Marketing Specialist for SHCS. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work collaboratively across multiple departments, including Marketing, Buying and the Bookstore management team. Work Performed Photographing merchandise in both studio and lifestyle settings following project briefing sessions and under provided creative direction from the E-Commerce team. Retouching photos and preparing image variants using Adobe Creative Cloud tools or Capture One. Filming and editing short-form video for digital platforms. Assisting the E-Commerce team with photoshoot logistics with responsibility to keep shot lists on track. Maintaining an organized digital asset library with clear file naming, metadata and alt text for accessibility. Designing static and animated promotional graphics for the bookstore website, email newsletters, in-store screens and social media platforms. Using template files, and under direction from established brand guidelines. Performing other related duties as required. Consequence of Error/Judgement Works within well-defined guidelines and procedures, but exercises judgment in establishing priorities and carrying tasks through to completion. Supervision Received Works under general supervision in carrying out familiar duties and responsibilities; receives instructions during orientation and on subsequent new assignments or changes in procedures. Supervision Given None. Minimum Qualifications High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own - Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion Preferred Qualifications Experienced in photography Interest in e-commerce Experience in HTML and CSS an asset Proven experienced in Creative Cloud and/or Figma Demonstrates organizational and time-management skills.
