WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for experienced individuals who can solidly demonstrate commercial experience in Visual FoxPro version 9. You will have commercial experience working within a development team capacity. You will have a good understanding of the Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) and have used SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), Transact SQL Stored procedures (T-SQL) and Source control (Source Safe / TFS / GIT). You will have a good level of attention to detail and accuracy and be able to work within time frames.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will act as a software developer for the further substantive development of Scrivens Optical Systems including, where applicable, integration into other Scrivens systems in accordance with the strategic plans of the Company. You will maintain a broad understanding of the function, purpose and commercial importance of each of the Company’s main computer systems and to use this knowledge to maintain and improve these systems, specifically the elements relating to the Optical Division.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To work as a Visual FoxPro developer for Optical systems, writing and testing new code for inclusion within Optical front of house, head office, and reporting systems.
  • Conduct 1st level testing of new code and assist with release to end users.
  • Maintain source control of code using Source Safe / TFS / GIT.
  • Excellent understanding of IT and the software development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with other team members and departments to ensure both new and existing systems remain a good functional fit and will meet all business requirements.
  • Analyse and fully understand requirements, documenting formal technical specifications where required and ensure these are signed off by end users.
  • Having analysed requirements, to set down an agreed working plan and thereafter deliver work on time, overcoming any unforeseen issues that may arise from time to time.
  • Work with external suppliers as appropriate including licensing and support.
  • Train support desk staff on new developments so that the helpdesk can in turn offer 1st line support to end users.
  • Assist Scrivens’ internal support desk in the day to day running of Optical systems and software by providing 3rd line support when requested.
  • Any other appropriate duties as requested from time to time.
