Description

The Visual and Media Arts Teacher is responsible for delivering a dynamic, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate arts program that fosters creativity, imagination, and self-expression. Drawing on the Victorian Curriculum F–10 Version 2.0, the role supports young learners in exploring and expressing their ideas through a wide range of visual and media forms. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, this role recognises and nurtures the “Hundred Languages of Children”- the many ways children express themselves, including drawing, painting, sculpture, movement, storytelling, digital media, and more. The teacher will create an environment where these diverse forms of expression are honoured, enabling students to explore their identities, make meaning of their world, and communicate their thinking in rich and varied ways. The teacher will also play a key role in engaging families and the broader community, fostering collaborative partnerships that celebrate student creativity and cultural diversity. Through exhibitions, shared projects, and authentic community connections, the teacher will help position the arts as a vital and visible part of the school’s learning culture. Additionally, the teacher will work as a collaborative member of the Junior School Arts team, which includes educators across Performing Arts and Visual and Media Arts. Together, the team will design integrated learning experiences, share pedagogical practices, and contribute to a cohesive and inspiring arts program across the early years. This is a fixed-term part-time position (0.5FTE) and will teach students from ELC - Year 2 and is based at the Kew Campus. Key Selection Criteria: * Relevant teaching qualifications and registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) * Experience teaching Visual and/or Media Arts in early years and primary settings * Demonstrated understanding of the Victorian Curriculum F–10 Version 2.0, particularly the Visual and Media Arts learning areas for Foundation to Level 2 * Ability to design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate arts experiences * Commitment to fostering creativity, critical thinking, and student voice * Experience in building partnerships with families and community stakeholders * Commitment to inclusive practices and cultural responsiveness, including the integration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives * Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team, particularly in interdisciplinary arts education settings * Strong communication and reflective practice skills * Experience in early childhood education (ELC) is highly desirable * Skills in digital media, photography, or animation suitable for young learners (highly desirable) * Experience in curating student exhibitions or community arts events (highly desirable) A valid Victorian Institute Teaching (VIT) registration is a requirement of employment in this position.
