Job Details Job Location: Ellicott City, MD 21043 Position Type: Full Time Hourly Wage: $20.00 The Vocational Assistant supports one or more individuals during their day-to-day activities in Linwood’s adult vocational or day habilitation program. The Vocational Assistant is directly responsible to the Community Integration Program Manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Participating in developing the Person-Centered Plan (PCP) and Behavior Support Plans and implementing and documenting the portion of the plan(s) related to the day program. Guiding one or more individuals at the day habilitation site, during community activities, or at volunteer sites to ensure that the services are provided as outlined in their PCP and to the approval of the volunteer coordinator. Safe and responsible driving is an essential component of this position. Providing guidance to one or more individuals at the day habilitation site to ensure successful participation in appropriate activities of daily living, including developing self-help skills, leisure skills, and functional academic or vocational skills. Actively supporting the individual in achieving success and integration in the community, at the volunteer site, or during recreational and leisure community activities. If requested/directed, timely attendance and participation in meetings, including but not limited to PCP meetings, staff meetings, in-service training, clinical meetings, and medication reviews. Be a role model to the individuals you serve and as a representation of Linwood. May be chosen to be trained by Linwood’s nurses to carry out the duties as a Certified Medication Technician (CMT) delegated by the nurses as prescribed by the Board of Nursing and DDA. Learns and properly utilizes Linwood’s Data Management System (CIMS) to maintain accurate records and permit accurate billing through LTSS/DDA. Attends work regularly according to the assigned work schedule and per Linwood’s policy. Attends and participates in all DDA-mandated training, staff meetings, and other activities to facilitate professional development. Maintains current valid CMT, CPR/ First Aid, and MANDT certifications. Works cooperatively with others, including all staff, supervisors, administrators, co-workers, people served, community professionals, customers, vendors, and the public. May assume other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as needed Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 21 and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience working in creating community involvement and volunteer or employment opportunities with persons with developmental disabilities preferred. Must have a valid driver’s MD license and an acceptable driving record as determined by criteria established by the Agency’s insurance carrier and by Agency policy. Abilities: To demonstrate interest and ability to address the developmental and social-emotional needs of adults with developmental disabilities. To be energetic, enthusiastic, patient, and understanding. To be flexible enough to work cooperatively with other staff in addressing individuals' physical, social-emotional, and behavioral needs. To demonstrate an understanding of fundamental rights and self-determination and assure that the individuals to whom he/she provides support be afforded these rights. To demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Linwood’s philosophy and the ability to teach Linwood’s methods and philosophy to others. To engage professionally with Linwood staff, parents, school system personnel, and other professionals. The ability to organize, document, and meet deadlines. To follow written and oral instructions and procedures. Physical Demands and Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. • Regularly exposed to weather conditions during travel to and from worksites and appointments. • Frequently required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, and various technology or controls. • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, run, or crawl. • Must be able to work under regular, moderate levels of stress. • Must be able to regularly lift and move up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
