Description

General Summary:
TPx is seeking a VoIP Engineer with a strong background in Voice-over-IP to join our Voice Engineering team. The ideal candidate will assist TPx in delivering a superior customer experience. This position reports to the Manager of Voice Engineering and does not have any direct reports. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing and operating TPx’s VoIP and telephony services.
TPx, A Managed Services Provider, operates many diverse and vendor agnostic platforms nationally. The incumbent in this role will be responsible for quickly understanding and operating on these platforms, using existing documentation and independent discovery of the environments, as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • 2+ years’ experience implementing, troubleshooting, and maintaining VoIP systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge with telephone networks – POTS and VoIP
  • Demonstrated knowledge with telephony standards and protocols – H.323, MGCP, ISDN, SIP, RTP
  • Demonstrated knowledge with IP networks and troubleshooting (VoIP, NAT Traversal, etc.)
  • Preferred knowledge programming and scripting (BASH / Python / JavaScript / PHP)
  • Demonstrated knowledge working in Linux-based open-source environments and platforms
  • Strong technical, leadership, and communication skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead complex projects in a cross functional team environment
  • Demonstrate the ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to hear ordinary conversations and phone communications

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • Required — Bachelor’s degree in technology or equivalent experience (5-years)
  • Required — Experience with Session Border Controllers (SBCs)
  • Preferred — Experience in service provider networks
  • Preferred — Industry relevant training and certifications — CCNA, CCNP, dCAA, dCAP, etc.

Responsibilities
  • Operate softswitch (Cisco Broadworks), SBC, and routing platforms located in diverse geographic regions
  • Provide expertise in VoIP-based technologies primarily focused on delivering carrier services to enterprise customers
  • Help coordinate proper installation, configuration, and testing of VoIP components
  • Create and maintain documentation to support the implementation and management of VoIP technologies
  • Collaborate with engineering function to ensure that designs are in line with the needs of the current and future requirements from our customers, network platforms, and security compliance
  • Perform off-hours maintenance to upgrade or address issues as needed
  • Engage and manage external vendors as appropriate to enhance the team’s capabilities
  • Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned
  • This position participates in an on-call rotation and may provide support off hours as required
