Description Project Management Internship - Volanno Transportation Academy Volanno, a leader in transportation technology and innovation, proudly announces the return of the Volanno Transportation Academy (VTA) for its second year— a 10-week, full-time, paid internship program designed to give students hands-on experience addressing the real-world challenges facing the transportation industry. Through the Volanno Transportation Academy, participants will gain direct exposure to aviation, rail, and local transit operations through curated site visits, mentorship by industry experts, and project-based learning. Interns will choose one of four tracks — Project Management, Entrepreneurship, Technology, or Air Traffic Control. Location: Washington, DC Metro Area (Site Visits Required) Duration: 10 Weeks (Starting June 1, 2026) Compensation: $20.00 per hour, Full-Time About the Track: Project Management in the transportation sector demands precision, flexibility, and a deep understanding of operational continuity. Transportation systems — from railways to air traffic control centers — operate 24/7, meaning projects must be planned and executed while systems remain active. Interns in the Project Management Track will learn how to plan, coordinate, and deliver solutions within these complex, live environments. What You'll Do: Participate in site visits to aviation, rail, and local transit agencies to observe active operations. Learn how to develop project schedules, risk management plans, and stakeholder communications for systems that cannot be easily shut down. Shadow Volanno project managers overseeing multimillion-dollar initiatives. Meet with transportation leaders and industry experts. Support the creation of project artifacts such as work breakdown structures, change management plans, and operational risk assessments. Complete weekly video logs to document your journey. Complete a capstone project proposing improvements for an ongoing transportation system or project to present to Volanno leadership at the end of the program. Attend the graduation ceremony.
