Description

As Providence Care’s Hospice Volunteer Coordinator, you will build and lead a high-impact volunteer program that enhances our clinical team’s work. You will recruit, screen, train, assign, and mentor volunteers; design and maintain a quality-assurance framework that meets all federal, state, and local regulations; and serve as the strategic link between volunteers and the broader interdisciplinary hospice staff.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

A Bachelor’s degree is preferred. A study emphasis in social work, psychology, counseling, marketing, or related field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of one year management experience dealing with data, people, program development, and/or marketing preferred. Experience in a hospice, healthcare, or similar setting preferred

Responsibilities
  • Assume overall responsibility for the volunteer services program under the direction of the Hospice Director of Clinical Services.
  • Actively recruit and retain volunteers from the community according to hospice policy and procedures.
  • Select volunteers by interview and screening qualifications according to hospice policy and procedures.
  • Maintain and implement a formal orientation and training course and routine in-services for volunteers according to hospice policy and procedures.
  • Act as liaison between the interdisciplinary group and the volunteers, attending the interdisciplinary group meeting as directed.
  • Inform patient-care volunteers of any changes in patient and family situation that would affect volunteer care.
  • Conduct volunteer need assessments as needed and make contacts and visits as needed to ensure quality volunteer care.
  • Assign volunteers to provide direct or indirect services with consideration of individual preferences and ability and according to the patient’s plan of care.
  • Supervise and guide volunteers in providing services.
  • Ensure that documentation is obtained and complete according to policy.
  • Evaluate periodically the performance of volunteers and the program.
  • Plan and provide annual recognition of volunteer services.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and periodically updating electronic-based and/or paper-based assessments, other documentation forms, and tracking and filing systems for contacts required for volunteer services.
  • Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director of Family and Client Services, as necessary/required, concerning the operation of the volunteer program.
  • Actively participate in responding to audits with any needed plans of correction related to volunteer care.
