Title: Volunteer Coordinator (1 year contract with a potential for extension)
About Prince George Council of Seniors:
Prince George Council of Seniors (PGCOS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for and supporting the well-being of seniors in our community. We provide a range of programs and services aimed at enhancing the quality of life and promoting independence among older adults.
Job Summary:
The Coordinator will recruit, orient, train, and support volunteers working with seniors in the Prince George and Regional District of Fraser Fort George area. The Coordinator will support community organizations and programs that employ volunteers that work with seniors by assisting in the development of consistent recruitment practices, including interviews, reference checks, and criminal record checks. The Coordinator will develop orientation workshops and packages and assist with onboarding of new volunteers. The Coordinator will assist organizations in the development of monitoring and reporting practices to ensure that those in regular contact with seniors are trained to note possible risk factors that may compromise healthy aging. In addition, the Coordinator will assist organizations with volunteer appreciation activities. The key delivery service is the City of Prince George and surrounding areas in the Regional District of Fraser Fort George.
The staff Coordinator will be housed in the Senior Resource Centre at the Prince George Council of Seniors and will be provided with office and administration supports. The Coordinator will be supervised by the Executive Director of the PGCOS. Service Providers who employ volunteers to work with seniors will meet regularly with the Coordinator to discuss specific volunteer needs for their programs and services. An event to recognize volunteer managers will be scheduled.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary will depend on the applicant’s qualifications, experiences, and skillset.
  • Range of pay: $26.69/hr for 35 hours/week, based on experience and skillsets.
  • Benefits after 3 months of probation period.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Graduation from a post-secondary institution with a degree or diploma in Recreation or a related discipline plus some related experience preferably working with seniors and/or volunteers; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of the volunteer program.
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, techniques, policies, and procedures pertaining to the recruitment and coordination of a large volunteer group.
  • Sound knowledge of the interests, requirements, and resources of the volunteer community.
  • Ability to develop, plan, schedule, implement, evaluate, and recommend changes to volunteer programs, activities, and services.
  • Ability to recruit and appropriately place volunteers and to participate in monitoring and evaluating work performance.
  • Ability to orient, train, and motivate volunteers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, staff of other agencies, and the public; and to employ contemporary service excellence principles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to make presentations.
  • Ability to monitor the volunteer program budget and to prepare and maintain correspondence, records, reports, and training materials.
  • Ability to act as a resource person and provide leadership to members of volunteer committees and the Association.
  • Organize and coordinate Golden Age Socials, volunteer appreciation events, and other community engagement activities to foster social connections among seniors.
  • Manage cash and debit transactions, including small donations for various programs and membership fees. Accurately record and track all transactions in Excel spreadsheet to maintain financial oversight.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia.
  • The successful candidate must be able to pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check.
