This role ensures consistent execution of established processes while maintaining a strong pipeline of new volunteers and a high-quality participant experience. This is a manager role focused on execution, operational excellence, and outcomes. The Volunteer Manager works within an established organizational framework and aligns fully with leadership direction. Ownership is expected for results, performance, and volunteer experience—while adhering to defined program structure, priorities, and decision-making authority. This position operates in alignment with CFRE competencies and the AFP Code of Ethical Standards, with emphasis on relationship management, stewardship, and ethical practice. Responsibilities Program Execution and Growth Execute and manage the organization’s established individual volunteer program in accordance with defined processes, standards, and leadership direction. Maintain a consistent pipeline of new volunteers, ensuring ongoing recruitment and program participation. Ensure efficient, reliable delivery of all volunteer processes, including onboarding, placement, scheduling, and engagement. Take ownership of program outcomes, including participation levels, engagement quality, and retention. Identify and communicate opportunities for practical, incremental improvement, aligned with organizational priorities. Volunteer Recruitment and Engagement Recruit through quarterly information sessions, referrals, and other means. Onboard volunteers with recurring weekly sessions, or as needed. Build professional, respectful relationships that support strong volunteer engagement and retention. Execute recognition and stewardship activities consistent with company guidelines. In-Kind Contributions and Supply Initiatives Coordinate execution of quarterly supply drives, assembly activities, and distribution efforts. Manage logistics, communication, and volunteer coordination for in-kind initiatives. Facilitate group volunteer assembly days, ensuring clear direction, efficient workflow, and positive experience. Partner with internal teams to ensure alignment between supply collection, assembly, and program distribution. Resale Shop Volunteer Coordination Recruit individual volunteers and weekly groups to support The Resale Shop. Coordinate closely with shop staff to align volunteer activities with operational needs (customer service, merchandising, sorting, inventory). Ensure consistent volunteer coverage to support day-to-day operations and customer experience. Support expansion to multiple Resale Shop locations, maintaining consistency in volunteer coordination and expectations across sites. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work collaboratively across departments with a team-first approach to support organizational priorities. Maintain clear, direct communication with program, development, and operations staff. Align all volunteer activities with organizational goals and leadership direction. Data Management and Reporting Maintain accurate volunteer records and participation data within the organization’s systems. Track key metrics, including recruitment, engagement, and retention. Provide regular updates on program performance and operational needs. Compliance and Ethics Maintain confidentiality of volunteer and donor information. Ensure appropriate boundaries for all volunteer and fundraising-related activities. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, volunteer coordination, or related field. 3–5 years of experience managing or supporting volunteer programs. Experience working within structured programs and processes preferred. Experience with volunteer management software preferred.
