POSITION OVERVIEW:

Develops and manages a high quality program of volunteer services by building and managing a volunteer corps of competent and committed individuals. Manages all activities necessary to recruit, train, orient, supervise, and support lay volunteers to for the various volunteer positions.
Job Description:
DAY SHIFTS (24 Hrs Weekly): Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday / No Weekends

EDUCATION:

  • [Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma]
  • Bachelor’s: human service, behavioral science, psychology, social work, or counseling or related field

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years of recent relevant experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of psychosocial issues associated with the aging and dying process.
  • Knowledge of volunteer roles and support requirements.
  • Knowledge of how to recruit, motivate, supervise and train volunteers.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of adult learning.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Title XXII, Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHAP), state and all other regulations applicable to Hospice Volunteer programs.
  • Ability to coordinate volunteer scheduling.
  • Ability to file alphabetically and chronologically and organize a filing system.
  • Must be able to handle sensitive issues, conflict with or among others, respectively direct and reinforce staff efforts; effectively plan and organize and prioritize work, and to effectively solve unique problems as they arise or identify when to consult supervisor.
  • Must be able to deal with a challenging work environment from time demands and conflicting priorities.
  • Maintain a positive and professional image and demonstrate self-directed learning to meet professional development and/or license requirements.
  • At orientation and annually thereafter, must be able to meet core competencies for position and area of specialty, as appropriate.
  • Ability to be aware of surroundings and respond to emergency and/or urgent events.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Ability to communicate with possibly disoriented, combative patients.
  • Ability to work in mentally and physically demanding environment.
  • Ability to listen and offer support and direction to volunteers.
  • Must be detail-oriented and creative.
  • Must have organizational skills, interpersonal skills, problem solving abilities, ability to prioritize work.
  • Must be able to work effectively with a minimum of supervision.
  • Must be able to work under time-pressure and changing priorities and be able to deal with potentially conflicting demands.
  • Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with clients and co-workers.
  • Must be able to discern sensitive issues and respond appropriately.
  • Must be sensitive to the human needs and situations encountered in the provision of hospice and bereavement care.
  • Competent public speaking skills.
