YMCA Derbyshire believes in fairness and opportunity. There are essential building blocks for a full and rewarding life: a safe home; acceptance; guidance; friendship; physical and mental health; academic support; employment skills; and access to real opportunities. Many young people have never known these things; other people have lost one or more as they grew up, but we all need them. All of us. At YMCA, we provide these critical foundations for a fresh, strong start for young people and a better quality of life in the community.
That’s why we focus on creating environments where young people can flourish. We champion fairness, opportunity, and the belief that everyone can achieve great things with the right support. Our work centres around five interconnected strengths-based areas:
Health & Wellbeing
We nurture wellbeing through access to therapeutic support, community green spaces, and activities that strengthen resilience, mindfulness, and connection — empowering people to take ownership of their own health.
Support & Advice
Our Community Hub is designed to be a vibrant center, providing a variety of support including education, training, and housing advice to individuals and families at risk of experiencing poverty and/or homelessness.
Family & Youth Work
We provide high-quality, affordable childcare across Derby and Derbyshire — supporting children to thrive from an early age and enabling families to build strong, positive futures.
Training & Education
We open doors to learning, skills development and employment — helping individuals identify their talents and ambitions and giving them the tools to shape their own future.
Housing
Through our supported housing pathways, we offer more than a place to stay — we provide a home where individuals are supported to build confidence, find purpose, and move forward independently.
This is a role where you’ll be part of a dynamic, values-led organisation investing in people’s strengths, not their setbacks.
You’ll contribute to wide-ranging, impactful work — a great opportunity for someone who wants to be inspired by the energy, ambition, and potential of the people we support.

Overall role purpose:

  • To deliver workshops to learners and/or residents at YMCA Derbyshire in your skill area.
  • To ensure, at all times, a professional and supportive approach is maintained.
  • To assist participants to engage in activities effectively
  • Following the session to pass on relevant information to the tutor or support assistant in charge.

Main duties:

  • Delivery of engaging workshops to demonstrate a skill to engage participants and to get them to have a go at something new.
  • Work with the YMCA Derbyshire team to produce information to advertise your session.
  • Provide resource lists to enable sessions to run effectively.
  • Work with YMCAD staff to produce risk assessments for the sessions.
  • To apply the operational policies and procedures of YMCA Derbyshire
