CNB is looking for a qualified, motivated, and client- and team-focused individual to join our team as an ON-SITE VP - Chief Human Resources Officer, in our Hillsdale, Michigan location.

JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) is a senior administrative position tasked with providing strategic leadership across all facets of a comprehensive human resources operation, including talent management, culture development, professional growth, and associate engagement. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the CHRO leads a dedicated HR team and plays a pivotal role in creating a welcoming and supportive work environment that is essential for attracting and retaining top talent and ensuring that HR strategies align with the Bank’s mission, vision, values and objectives.

  • Bachelor’s degree, with an HR focus preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of relative experience in Human Resources.
  • Certificated HR Professional – HRCI or SHRM, preferred.
  • Experience in developing and implementing HR policies and procedures, willingness to build knowledge of employment laws and regulations at the federal level, as well as in Michigan.
  • Passion for providing a stellar client service experience to all clients (external and internal) and ability to instill this passion in others.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (tactfulness, cooperation, courteousness and customer friendliness) are necessary to represent the bank in a positive manner.
  • Positive and cooperative approach when working with others.
  • Excellent written communication skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly, concisely and effectively, with attention to detail for visually appealing output and accurately proofreading publications.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the demonstrated ability to effectively present information to clients and management.
  • Strong administrative skills with effectiveness in developing tasks and managing resources to achieve multiple project targets/goals.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and positively adapt to routine changes while maintaining high performance standards.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting procedures.
  • Ability to efficiently and accurately keyboard information, both computer and calculator.
  • Strong computer skills with a proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Responsibilities:

DUTIES

  • Strategic HR Leadership:
  • Collaborate with the President & CEO and other senior leaders to develop and execute HR strategies aligned with the Bank’s mission, vision, values and goals.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership teams to ensure HR initiatives support the Bank’s long-term vision.
  • Provide visionary leadership in HR practices, talent management, workforce planning, and organizational development.
  • Talent Acquisition and Management:
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the HR department, especially with regard to the recruitment and selection process to attract diverse, highly skilled candidates for all open positions.
  • Oversee onboarding and orientation program to integrate and support new associates joining the CNB Team.
  • Develop and manage talent development and succession planning programs across the Bank.
  • Associate Relations:
  • Foster and create strategies to ensure a positive work environment by promoting open communication, conflict resolution, and a culture of respect and valuing all associates.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that comply with federal and Michigan laws and regulations.
  • Lead investigations and resolutions of associate relations issues and complaints, ensuring the maintenance of records, and engaging external legal counsel for review, as needed.
  • Compensation and Benefits:
  • Manage compensation and benefits programs, ensuring competitive and equitable pay structures.
  • Manage all aspects of benefits administration, including benefits enrollment, claims to process, and client service. In addition, create programs that encourage associate health and wellness.
  • Learning and Development:
  • Collaborate with all departments to identify professional development needs for associates.
  • Develop and implement an annual training and development program to enhance associate skills and promote career growth.
  • Performance Management:
  • Develop and maintain an effective performance appraisal system that supports associate growth and accountability of all associates.
  • Ensure effective performance evaluations and feedback processes for all associates with proper documentation of same.
  • Oversee the Performance Management Process by tracking associate progress toward organizational goals. This includes evaluating associate performance, informing associates about their strengths and weaknesses, outlining development opportunities for improvement, and providing feedback on performance.
  • Actively coach and support supervisory staff on performance management issues.
  • Employee Relations:
  • Coordinate Associate Engagement Survey periodically with partner Advisa and The Predictive Index.
  • Facilitate resolution of associate concerns and grievances.
  • Promote a positive and respectful workplace culture.
  • HR Technology and Data Analytics:
  • Utilize HR technology and data analytics to make informed decisions and improve HR processes and associate successes.
  • Ensure data privacy and security compliance in collaboration with the Bank’s IT Department and BankOnIT.
  • Compliance and Reporting:
  • Stay updated on employment laws and regulations and ensure compliance.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies as required.

  • Budget Management:
  • Develop and manage the HR department’s budget efficiently
  • Respects and maintains strict confidentiality of all information acquired while performing job tasks.
  • Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
  • Remains current in assigned training and continuing education for designation retention (online, video, in-house emails, telephone seminars, etc.)
  • Complies with all regulatory requirements including Bank Secrecy Act and all others specific to their position.
  • Performs other various duties as assigned.

CNB OFFICER ROLE

Sometimes the responsibilities of the officer role have been implied, or an example is set by the supervisor. To better clarify the role of a CNB Officer, the following has been added to the officer job description:

  • The role of a CNB Officer is where the line between an associate “working for the bank”, to “the responsibility for the Bank” is firmly drawn. Officers should be prepared to accept their representation as a leader of the Bank.
  • Officers understand that they are first an officer of the Bank, and second the officer and manager over their assigned area of responsibility. Officers provide leadership to both those under their immediate direction and those indirectly under them.
  • Officers represent the Bank and its policies. To the associates, the officer is the company. Officers are familiar with company policy, communicate policy to associates and represent the management of the company.
  • Officers support and participate in Bank sponsored client and asscoiate related events, and are willing to put in the extra time and effort needed to do so.
