Job Summary The Commercial Department aims to grow strong, profitable banking relationships with businesses and their owners. This position is responsible for identifying and meeting the financial needs of business clients, contributing to the bank’s growth and profitability by originating business loans, generating new deposits, providing cash management services, and generating other revenue. The Commercial Banker is also responsible for proactive cross-selling and referrals to other traditional and non-traditional financial products and services, specifically in the Eastern Metro and St. Croix River Valley. This position has heavy contact with business clients. The incumbent must research current clients’ businesses and industries to assess potential financial needs; originate and administer a loan portfolio; develop new business for the Bank; and professionally represent First State Bank and Trust. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Understand and carry out senior management’s sales objective(s) within the respective marketplace/territory. Identify and develop new business relationships with annual revenue ranging from $500,000 to $15 million. Independently build and/or manage a $20 - $25 million portfolio of business clients over time. Have a well-defined marketing strategy that will target goals. 80-90% of the time will be spent in the designated market, representing the organization and generating business by meeting with prospects, outbound calling, attending networking events, and participating in community events. Develop a network of referral sources by working closely with centers of influence, including CPAs, lawyers, and commercial real estate brokers, to drive new business. Effectively onboard business prospects and grow existing business clients’ lending and depository relationships. Retain clients within one’s book of business with a focus on deepening relationships. Partner with multiple lines of business within First State Bank and Trust, including but not limited to Treasury Management, Branch Banking, Trust and Investment Advisory Services, as well as Valley Agencies Insurance, to help refer and deepen new and existing client relationships. Possess in-depth experience in the pre-qualification, structuring, and pricing of all credit requests to adhere to First State Bank and Trust's profitability standards. Maintain a strong understanding of and adhere to First State Bank and Trust’s credit policy and procedures, evaluate risk on credit and depository products, and recognize client eligibility to successfully submit credit/application packages, ensuring that underwriting and credit quality standards are implemented and maintained. Negotiate credit terms, including costs, repayment terms, and collateral requirements. Stay current with national, regional, and local industry trends. Requirements EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: 2 or 4-year college degree, preferably in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 5 - 10 years of related experience working in the commercial banking field. Skills should include experience in structuring, underwriting, closing, and administering commercial loans. Proven solid loan production history as a lender/banker. Ability to independently analyze financial reports and structure credit requests. Excellent judgment and independent thinking skills. Experience with commercial loan documentation and common commercial real estate reports (i.e., appraisal, environmental, title). Knowledge of standard bank credit policies and loan administration procedures. Maintains current knowledge of Federal and State laws and regulations, as well as industry best practices, including BSA, AML, Patriot Act, CIP, and OFAC regulations and guidelines. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively and favorably in person and on the telephone with prospects, clients, consultants, government agency staff, legal counsel, and team members. Ability to mobilize internal networks and resources. Experience as a credit analyst preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to function effectively in an environment with deadlines and shifting priorities. Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality. Proven customer service skills and the ability to resolve problems and prevent customer dissatisfaction. Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment. Responsibilities
This role is responsible for growing profitable banking relationships by identifying and meeting the financial needs of business clients, originating business loans, generating deposits, and providing cash management services. The Commercial Banker must also proactively cross-sell other financial products within the Eastern Metro and St. Croix River Valley territories.
