We're seeking a future team member for the role of Data Centre Engineer to join our APAC Technology Data Centre team. This role is located in Japan (Tokyo). The successful candidate will manage all aspects of the day-to-day Data Centre operations within the APAC region as part of the Technology Data Centre team, working closely with regional and global technology teams to ensure the effective delivery of projects and BAUs to the Asia Pacific lines of business. You will be primarily responsible for the delivery of operations and support services for the Data Centre to global standards, plus documentation and troubleshooting. Operational responsibilities span multiple data centres regionally and globally. Responsibilities also extend to assessing current Data Centre and server room infrastructure and you will be expected and encouraged to make recommendations for management, process, service and operational improvements. In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways: Oversee the installation, upkeep, decommissioning, and disposal of all necessary hardware within the data center. Maintain up-to-date documentation and ensure all pertinent parties are promptly informed of any changes. Proactively seek enhancements to boost the service quality, dependability, and resilience of data center operations. Support the planning and implementation of operational needs such as rack space, cabling, and power management in Data Centers and APAC regional server rooms. Serve as the primary operational contact for all outsourced data center service providers. Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and be available for overtime as dictated by business needs and managerial direction. Provide coverage for a standard weekday shift from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, with additional overtime and weekend work as necessary. Monitor all events, taking corrective measures until full resolution. Respond promptly to service requests received and assigned Manage inventory, track equipment, and handle replenishment and ordering processes. Adhere to environmental standards for hardware disposal and NIST guidelines for media destruction. Set up out-of-band management tools such as iLO, iDRAC, and CIMC. Possess a working knowledge of various copper and fiber cabling standards, along with troubleshooting skills. Have a foundational understanding of TCP/IP, IP addressing, subnets, and VLANs. Assist in disaster recovery drills, which may include planned and spontaneous work outside regular hours. Ensure compliance with security, audit, and safety protocols always. Take full responsibility for data center and server room-related tasks, driving them to completion and resolution. To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following: Essential Skills and Experience: Extensive experience in data center operations and routine maintenance tasks. Proficient in managing IT server/storage hardware and data/voice network communications, including hands-on experience with HPE Server, CISCO UCS Server, DELL EMC Server, and networking equipment from DELL EMC/NetApp/PURE/TINTRI STORAGE and CISCO. Demonstrated knowledge of IT technologies and familiarity with the industry standards. Solid understanding of IT service management within an ITIL framework, with experience in ServiceNow ticketing systems. Experience in managing data center critical infrastructure, including UPS, CRAC units, fire suppression systems, and electrical distribution. In depth understanding of local/cultural nuances with bi-lingual capabilities (English and Japanese). Desirable: Education at a level appropriate to meet and surpass the expectations of this role. ITIL V3 certification, demonstrating knowledge of best practices in IT service management. Professional qualifications in Data Center operations such as CDCP, CDCS, CDCE, or CDCDP. Training in vendor-specific hardware, including HPE, CISCO UCS, DELL EMC, and CISCO Networks.
