ABOUT YOU:

You’re more than just a financial expert—you’re a seasoned leader who thrives on using numbers to tell stories, provide insights, and drive meaningful change. You deliver both vision and execution and excel in balancing strategic planning with tactical oversight. You have financial management, compliance, audit preparation, and fund management. Your proficiency in QuickBooks or comparable systems, allows you to focus on implementing efficiency and automation improvements and the ability to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights for a non-financial audience. Your hands-on experience with capital budgeting, asset management, and stakeholder engagement and your proactive approach, strong communication skills, and ability to guide financial strategy make you an ideal candidate for this impactful position.

YOUR SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

CPA designation (or active pursuit with substantial progress)
At least 5+ years of progressive financial experience, including 1–2 years in leadership or supervisory roles
Expertise in non-profit financial management, compliance, audit preparation, and fund management
Familiarity with grant reporting requirements, GST filings, and financial risk assessment
Proficiency in QuickBooks or comparable systems, with a focus on implementing efficiency and automation improvements
Advanced analytical and organizational skills, with an unwavering commitment to details and deadlines
The ability to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights for a non-financial audience.
Experience with capital budgeting, asset management, and stakeholder engagement
A background in research-based organizations or industry associations is desirable but not essential
A strong ability to improve financial processes and systems for greater efficiency
Demonstrated ability to communicate financial data clearly to various audiences, including boards, committees, and external stakeholders.

THE ROLE:

Are you a strategic financial leader passionate about driving positive change in a purpose-driven organization? Do you excel in delivering impactful financial solutions in dynamic environments? We’re seeking a Director of Finance to join a community-focused organization that values collaboration, integrity, and sustainable growth. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this high-impact role will enable you to shape the financial strategy and operations while supporting strategic decision-making and organizational growth. You’ll oversee every aspect of the financial landscape, including planning, compliance, reporting, and operational leadership, ensuring the organization’s financial sustainability and alignment with its mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead financial forecasting, budgeting, and reporting to guide executive decision-making and maintain financial transparency
Ensure accurate financial record-keeping, robust internal controls, and seamless audit readiness
Develop and enforce financial policies, while ensuring compliance with regulatory and funding requirements
Manage cash flow, banking relationships, investment strategies, and funding streams to support long-term financial health
Provide oversight for grant and fund accounting, including reporting to funders and stakeholders
Deliver actionable financial reports and insights to senior leadership, the Board, and Finance Committee
Identify opportunities for enhancing financial systems and reporting workflows
Mentor finance staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture
Contribute to risk management, strategic planning, and special initiatives.
