Position Description:
Salson Logistics is a division of Total Transportation Services (TTSI) transportation operation that provides logistics solutions from Port-to Shelf services for large retailers and consumer brands.
Salson has been in business since 1960, succeeding with continued growth and thriving in a competitive marketplace.
As the VP of Maintenance, you will oversee the maintenance operations including physical company maintenance facilities and all company assets which includes a fleet of straight trucks, tractors, trailers, and chassis. You will manage the mechanical labor, reporting, and maintenance costs across all facilities. This position will lead all Shop Managers, Supervisors, and Technicians throughout our network. This role will be both hands-on and strategic to ensure high performance and operational efficiency. You will travel to our locations nationwide to manage our maintenance facilities with a hands-on approach.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Direct oversight and planning of the company shops and rolling assets
  • Create and maintain efficient shop performance standards (standard repair times (SRTs) KPIs, procedures (SOPs) and policies
  • Maintain strict adherence to company operations, safety policies, and develop/amend SOPs as needed
  • Adherence and awareness of all DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA rules/regulations
  • Work with Safety and Operations to create and deploy a standard tractor specification by work type
  • Manage equipment lifecycle, management for tractor, trailer and chassis assets to maximize profitability in collaboration with Finance, Operations and Sales
  • Work with Finance to develop an asset management strategy based on the total cost of ownership of a tractor (preventative maintenance, component failure, fuel, lost opportunity of down time, etc.) to determine replacement needs for capital investment plan for annual budget.
  • Create and assure the accuracy of parts inventories and monitory cost versus budget
  • Maintain department budget to control maintenance costs relating to personnel, purchasing, inventory control and outsourcing of repairs
  • Oversee vehicle preventive maintenance schedules and process
  • Interview, train and coach subordinate staff members and complete employee assessments and performance reviews
  • Be a strong leader for the companys driver retention efforts with your entire staff through encouragement, coaching and active participation within your department and throughout the entire company
  • Direct supervisory staff in the planning of rolling stock repair and maintenance jobs
  • Operate and utilize computerized diagnostic (TMT) and other tracking systems
  • Provide reports to senior leadership on a weekly/monthly basis
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested
  • Create and implement a business plan for area of responsibility including processes, protocols and procedures to streamline productivity and set benchmarks. Update as necessary
  • Enhance maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
  • In collaboration with Safety and Operations develop and maintain a technology solution in and around the tractor for regulatory compliance and accident avoidance.
  • Develop relationships with OEMs, outside vendors to ensure current, future technology and outside assistance
  • Using the developed specification work with the OEMs for procurement of tractors based on the annual budget process in place for capital investments.
  • Develop a written Safety and Health Program, Hazard Communication Program, PPE Assessment Written Hazard Assessment, Powered Industrial Truck training and certification

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience in logistics and fleet mechanics including Freightliners, MAC, and CNG vehicles
  • 5+ years of experience managing multiple maintenance facilities across the US
  • Must have strong leadership skills with a high level of communication skills in all forms (in person, email, text, etc.)
  • Must be detail-oriented; understand workflows; be highly organized; able to multitask and work well under pressure
  • Knowledge of Maintenance TMS software
  • Financial and budgeting skills
  • Available to travel to Maintenance locations as necessary
