Description

The incumbent will lead a global multidisciplinary team to bridge the gap between scientific research and clinical application, leveraging data science to drive innovation and improve patient outcomes. This role is pivotal in translating scientific discoveries into actionable insights and therapeutic strategies. The incumbent will beresponsible for high-level strategy, scientific expertise and leadership in the direction, growth and continued development of all aspects of Translational and Data Science including translational research, clinical bioanalytics, bioinformatics and biostatistics. Working closely with clinical development, the leader will champion the generation, delivery, endorsement and implementation of high quality, peer-reviewed bioassay and biomarker strategies/plans to provide timely, decision making, pre-clinical and scientific data to support pivotal pre-clinical Toxicology studies and optimise clinical development programs.
The incumbent will also ensure appropriate Translational Research expertise, resource and input to Research projects to ensure a seamless discovery, development and transition of Biomarkers, bioassays into Toxicology and Clinical Development studies.
Main Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Active member of the Research LT, driving CSL’s drug discovery to ensure development of a commercial portfolio that contributes to the company’s vision of being a leading plasma biotech company
  • Develop and implement strategies to integrate translational science and data science into the research and development pipeline.
  • Align translational and data science initiatives with organizational goals to enhance clinical development and patient care.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration within the team and across departments.

Data Science Integration:

  • Oversee the application of advanced data analytics, machine learning, and AI to interpret complex biological data.
  • Ensure the development and utilization of data platforms and tools to support translational research.
  • Drive the integration of real-world evidence and big data into research strategies.

Translational Science:

  • Lead efforts to translate preclinical findings into clinical applications, ensuring scientific discoveries are effectively developed into therapeutic solutions.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to design and execute translational studies that support drug development and regulatory submissions.
  • Provide scientific leadership in biomarker discovery, validation, and implementation.

Research and Clinical Biomarkers

  • Develop and execute assays to enable assessment of clinical benefit risk profile including efficacy, safety, immunogenicity, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodymanic biomarkers

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with research, clinical, regulatory, and commercial teams to ensure seamless integration of translational and data science efforts.
  • Facilitate partnerships with external stakeholders, including academic institutions, industry partners, and regulatory bodies.

Project Management:

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and reporting of translational and data science projects.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and budget, maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators to measure the success of translational and data science initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience Requirements
A minimum of 15 years experience in translational medicine, bioinformatics, or related areas within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
Proven track record of leading teams and driving successful research programs from bench to clinic.
Strong background in clinical development, biomarker discovery, and computational biology.
Exceptional leadership and communication skills to influence cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
Deep understanding of bioinformatics tools, data analysis techniques, and translational research methodologies.
Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and work effectively with external collaborators
