POSITION SUMMARY

The Adult Education Teacher is responsible for the delivery of culturally relevant and academically sound adult education programming for Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation members. The role combines instructional duties with program coordination and administrative responsibilities to ensure effective planning, implementation and evaluation of adult learning initiatives. The incumbent promotes life‐long learning, fosters student success, and contributes to a supportive, respectful learning environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Education and valid Ontario College of Teachers certification/registration (or equivalent adult education qualification).
  • Experience teaching adult learners and coordinating educational programs.
  • Knowledge of Sagamok Anishnawbek culture, traditions, language and history.
  • Ability to develop curriculum and implement culturally relevant programming.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, planning and organizational skills.
  • Proficient with administrative duties including data management and proposal/report preparation.

Responsibilities

TEACHING DUTIES

  • Deliver high quality, age and stage appropriate instruction to adult learners in accordance with curriculum standards and learner needs.
  • Provide physical, social, cognitive and emotional development opportunities for students.
  • Create a caring, stimulating and culturally safe learning environment.
  • Develop lesson plans, learning materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist special needs students and monitor student progress and attendance.
  • Liaise and collaborate with staff, Elders and community members to support student success.
  • Provide leadership and coordination for educational assistants and other support staff in the classroom.
  • Encourage student motivation and academic achievement through differentiated instruction.
  • Maintain proper classroom order and discipline in accordance with Sagamok Education policies.
