The Job

We are currently seeking a skilled waiter to join our team at The Duchess Amsterdam. As a waiter, you will be responsible for providing our guests with an exceptional dining experience. This role requires an individual who is passionate about hospitality, attentive to detail, and possesses excellent communication skills. All our employees work together to provide outstanding, authentic service and experience for every guest. To realize this, we are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join our team.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a safe dining experience for all guests by effectively communicating and addressing allergies.
• Taking orders: Waiters are responsible for taking guests' food and drink orders and adding them to the till system, answering any questions they may have and making recommendations based on the menu/guests' preferences.
• Providing customer service: Waiters are responsible for providing high-quality guest service, answering questions, resolving issues, and making sure customers have a positive dining experience.
• Having an understanding of wines and their characteristics to provide a superior dining experience for guests.
• Serving food and drinks: Waiters are responsible for serving food and drinks to guests in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring that orders are accurate and properly prepared with an accurate description.
• Handling payments: Waiters are responsible for processing payments from guests, including calculating bills, handling cash and credit card transactions, and making change.
• Cleaning and setting tables: Waiters are responsible for cleaning and setting tables before and after guests leave, ensuring that the dining area is clean and organized.

Requirements

• Communication skills: Waiters must have strong communication skills and be able to interact with guests in a friendly, professional manner.
• Customer service skills: Waiters must have excellent customer service skills and be able to address guest' needs and concerns effectively.
• Teamwork approach: Waiters must be able to work effectively with other staff members, such as chefs, barbacks, and bartenders, to ensure a smooth and efficient dining experience.
• International approach: Must be able to fully communicate in English
• North Holland: Living in Amsterdam or nearby (flexible with commuting)

Responsibilities

• Greet and welcome guests
• Present menu and provide detailed information when asked (e.g. about portions, ingredients or potential food allergies)
• Offer menu recommendations upon request
• Up-sell additional products when appropriate
• Take accurate food and drinks orders
• Communicate order details to the Kitchen Staff
• Serve food and drink orders
• Deliver checks and collect bill payments
• Carry dirty plates, glasses and silverware to kitchen for cleaning
• Provide excellent customer service to guests

• Ability to adjust to the surroundings

• Flexibility to work during evenings, weekends and public holidays
• Located in or nearby Amsterdam
• Fluent speaking in English
