JOB DESCRIPTION

Oxygen rehab is a residential detox service utilizing the Therapeutic Community approach and offering an integrated & holistic treatment pathway for adults challenged by problematic substance use issues. Comprising of residential detox, a structured residential programme. We are now recruiting for a Waking Nights Support Worker to join our team.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • To be empathetic to the needs and circumstances of clients
  • An understanding of mental health and social services and knowledge of a range of statutory and voluntary support agencies
  • Ability to establish and maintain clear boundaries with clients
  • Ability to work on own initiative, use good judgement, prioritise accordingly, meet deadlines and seek help and advice when appropriate.
  • To demonstrate self-awareness and a commitment to diversity and equal opportunities as they relate to service delivery and partnership working. Able to challenge attitudes to change behaviours.
  • Competent IT skills Word, Excel, PowerPoint , Outlook and a willingness to learn and engage with other programmes as required
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work within a pressured environment
  • Ability to positively promote Druglink to attract client referrals and ensure an excellent reputation with partners at all times
  • Previous experience within a social care residential service would be advantageous
    The post holder will work 37 hours per week over a 2 week rolling period and will organise working time in such a way as to complete tasks within each working week. Flexibility in the hours will be required including weekend and bank holiday working, as necessary.

Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Based in our 9 bed residential center, you will display an empathetic, person centered approach and will ensure the safe running of the residential community overnight, offering support when required and ensuring that all residents abide by the rules of their treatment contracts.
You will ensure that all aspects of our Health & Safety policy are abided by and will monitor the security of the premises and residents throughout your shift, such a contacting senior manager for support in line with agreed protocol if required. You will also be required to update daily our health and safety records.
You will carry out drug or breathalyzer tests as required.
You will be responsible for the dispensing of clients medication, monitoring any changes and recording these on their Medication Administration Records Sheet (MARS). This will also include detoxification medication, for our clients who are going through an alcohol, opiate or any other reduction regimes.
You will work closely with the medication lead, to update them on any medication or health requirements of the clients.
You will be required to carry out administration duties by updating client’s records, health care plans, risk management and care plans, to help support the day team with the running of the service.
You will support service users to meet the goals set out in their recovery plans, demonstrating the ability and skills needed to motivate, inspire, challenge and support service users to achieve and maintain abstinence from illicit substances and/or alcohol.
You will understand the importance of supporting service users to develop healthy & constructive peer relationships in order to enhance their recovery capital.
You will seek to develop a relationship of trust with service users in order that they may address destructive patterns of behavior and help them to gain confidence and tools to sustain their recovery, updating service user notes as required.
You will participate in handover at both beginning and end of shift to ensure effective communication with wider Oxygen team and will carry out residents wake up call at the appropriate time.
