Job Description

Are you an ambitious and experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) ready to take on a pivotal leadership role? We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Ward Manager to provide clinical and operational leadership for our acute mental health service in West Yorkshire.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a proven leader to take full responsibility for a dynamic clinical environment. You will be instrumental in driving standards, developing your team, and ensuring the delivery of outstanding, patient-centred care, while working closely with the Director of Clinical Services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong, visible leadership and professional management to the entire ward team, including Staff Nurses, Deputy Ward Managers, and Healthcare support workers.
  • Hold full clinical and operational responsibility for the ward, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care and safety.
  • Manage the ward budget, resources, and staffing rota, ensuring effective e-rostering and safe staffing levels at all times.
  • Lead and oversee all medication rounds, ensuring safe administration in line with policy and NMC standards.
  • Work without supervision, using your initiative and clinical expertise to manage complex situations and lead the team effectively.
  • Work in partnership with the Director of Clinical Services and multidisciplinary teams to develop services and implement new care pathways.
  • Ensure all nursing staff receive regular clinical supervision, appraisals, and complete their CPD and mandatory training requirements.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, audit, and compliance with all regulatory standards (e.g., CQC).

    Essential Requirements:

  • Valid NMC Pin as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN).

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a senior role such as Deputy Ward Manager, Clinical Lead, or Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.
  • Proven experience working in a healthcare setting such as a Nursing Home, Care Home, or hospital environment.
  • Proven leadership and line management experience, with a track record of motivating and developing a nursing team.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical governance, audit, and quality assurance processes.
  • Excellent clinical knowledge, including the safe management of medication rounds and complex care needs.
  • Ability to work without supervision and make critical clinical decisions.

    Desirable Skills:

  • Formal management or leadership qualification.

  • Experience in an acute mental health setting.
  • A proven ability to work under pressure and lead a team effectively in a challenging environment.

    Why Join Us?

  • Competitive salary of £45,024 per annum.

  • A genuine Ward Manager position with full autonomy and responsibility for your clinical area.
  • Significant opportunity to influence and develop services and care pathways.
  • Clear pathway for further career progression into Clinical Services Manager (CSM) or Head of Care roles.
  • Comprehensive support for your own CPD and professional development.
  • Be part of a forward-thinking organisation that values strong clinical leadership.
If you are a motivated RMN with a valid NMC PIN and the proven leadership skills to excel as a Ward Manager, we encourage you to apply.
