    Who We Are
    The GVFB provides assistance to approximately 15,000 people monthly across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the North Shore. We also provide food support to 150 agencies such as housing agencies, women and children’s shelters, transition homes and after school programs, which in turn provide hot meals and snacks to thousands of people each week, including people who are unhoused.
    Our mission is providing healthy food to those in need. Our vision is to create healthy communities through fair and effective food systems. Currently, the GVFB distributes 8.9 M lbs of food each year.

    This is a full-time permanent position, with the opportunity to learn and grow. The successful candidate can expect a Living Wage based salary of $50,068 annually.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Warehouse Associate handles, moves, loads, and unloads goods by hand and with a variety of warehouse handling equipment such as pallet jack, electric pallet jack, or Counterbalance forklift. Opportunities for further development are available associated with gaining a higher-class driver’s license and assisting the Driver team with community deliveries and pickups. A positive attitude, a willingness to learn, a solid understanding of operations and/or inventory management (for example, building/filling orders and general warehouse tasks), and the ability to act as a Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB) Ambassador are key elements to success in this role.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AND CORE SKILLS

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Hold a BC Class 5 clean driving license;;
  • Provide 3 years Insurance Claims History and 3 years clean Drivers Abstract;
  • 1+ years of experience operating a counterbalance forklift in a warehouse environment; .
  • Comfortable giving directions and speaking in front of large groups of volunteers;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, , and I-phone technology;
  • Flexibility around work hours, to include occasional evenings and weekends as required, shifts may be subject to change;
  • Flexibility to work in Burnaby and Vancouver GVFB locations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Exposure to ambient temperatures and noisy conditions;
  • Proper safety footwear required;
  • Bending and lifting boxes up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to physically operate and handle both a manual and electric pallet jack.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare pallets and wrap and weigh all completed orders;
  • Organize and load completed orders into vans or light trucks according to weight requirements to maximize efficiency and load distribution;
  • Ensure functional areas are kept clean, tidy, and organized at all times;
  • Receive, unload, and put away incoming products into inventory;
  • Inspect and count inbound and outbound shipments for accuracy, defects, or damages;
  • Ensure all product returns are put away correctly in the warehouse, following internal processes. This includes supplies, nutrient recovery, fresh, dry and frozen product.
  • Assist in other areas of the warehouse, including but not limited to, forklift operation, distribution, picking orders, sorting, cleaning, and data entry;
  • Assist other departments on an as-needed basis, including but not limited to, the teardown and set-up of Distribution, and other Warehousing activates;
  • Willingness to learn and assist with relief driving duties in vehicles such as vans, 1-ton, and 5-ton trucks to pick up and deliver food products as scheduled;
  • Regular Warehouse Week cleaning and other duties as assigned by the Warehouse and Food Sort Assistant Manager.
