  • Full-Time, Permanent position
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Competitive base salary of $65,000 annually

WHO WE ARE

The GVFB provides assistance to approximately 15,000 people monthly across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the North Shore. We also provide food support to 150 agencies such as housing agencies, women and children’s shelters, transition homes and after school programs, which in turn provide hot meals and snacks to thousands of people each week, including people who are unhoused.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Warehouse and Food Sort Lead at the GVFB, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient operation of our warehouse operations and food sort functional areas. The Warehouse and Food Sort Lead handles, moves, loads, and unloads goods by hand and with a variety of industrial handling equipment such as pallet jacks, electric pallet jacks, counterbalance forklifts, and reach trucks. This position requires a unique blend of operational expertise and people leadership.
As a member of the GVFB Warehouse Team, this individual will focus on processes and systems with a keen eye on continued improvement and Lean practices. This position will work in a fast-paced environment with continual change and multiple moving parts, you will ensure compliance with established organizational guidelines, safety, and operational procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 2-5+ years’ experience working in an operations and/or process-oriented role.
  • 2-3 years’ experience working in a warehouse environment.
  • Hold a valid BC Class 5 driving license.
  • Provide 3 years Insurance Claims History and 3 years clean Drivers Abstract.
  • Health and safety experience within the workplace is advantageous.
  • First Aid Certification is an asset.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working in a customer service environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, general IT tools and systems.
  • Able to be mobile and flexible around work hours and locations is required; this may include evenings and weekends, and shifts may be subject to change.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (IF APPLICABLE)

  • Exposure to ambient temperatures and noisy conditions.
  • Proper safety footwear required.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, lifting, walking, and standing throughout the shift.
  • Bending and lifting boxes up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Some local travel may be required.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the Warehouse and Food Sort teams, as well as the volunteers, in following all processes and procedures, including site-specific best-practices.
  • Provide training, support, and direction to the warehouse team, including Warehouse and Food Sort Associates.
  • Complete detailed inspections around warehouse safety, maintenance, and cleanliness.
  • Prepare pallets, wrap, and weigh all completed orders, load, and document.
  • Receive, unload, and put away incoming products into inventory.
  • Inspect and count inbound and outbound shipments for accuracy, defects, or damages.
  • Ensure all product returns are put away correctly in the warehouse, following internal processes. This includes supplies, waste streams, and fresh/dry/frozen products.
  • Assist in other areas of the warehouse to include but not limited to operating forklifts, distribution, picking orders, sorting, cleaning, and data entry.
  • Assist other departments on an as-needed basis, such as teardown, set-up, and participation of distribution.
  • Willingness to learn and assist with relief driving duties in vehicles such as vans, 1-ton, and 5-ton trucks to pick up and deliver food products, as scheduled.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure efficiency and effective processes are established and in place, as needed.
  • Ensure functional areas are clean, tidy, and organized at all times; floor is clear of pallets and obstacles at all times, ensuring safe pedestrian pathways.
  • Requisition of supplies and materials in accordance with the annual budget.
  • Recommend continuous improvement related changes, with supporting data, feedback, and observations to the Warehouse and Food Sort Assistant Manager.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Warehouse and Food Sort Assistant Manager and Operations Manager.
