JOB PURPOSE

The Shift Manager is responsible for leading, motivating, and managing a team within the warehouse to meet e-commerce, retail, and Goods In fulfilment targets. This role ensures all operations, including picking, packing, dispatch, stock handling, and returns, are executed efficiently, accurately, and safely. You will drive productivity, support continuous improvement, and maintain high standards of stock accuracy and team performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Excellence & Fulfilment

• Oversee end-to-end shift operations including inbound, pick/pack, dispatch, Amazon pallet prep, wholesale and e-commerce fulfilment.
• Ensure timely and accurate dispatch of all orders (retail, Amazon, wholesale, e-commerce).
• Plan and manage labour efficiently to meet daily, weekly, and seasonal order volume peaks.
• Monitor WMS (Warehouse Management System) accuracy.
• Ensure 99.5% stock accuracy is achieved and maintained across the operation.
• Maintain quality control through spot checks (20% of picked orders) and implement corrective actions where necessary.
• Manage the returns process and ensure WMS integrity.
• Coordinate closely with the transport team to monitor trailer loads, yard operations, and dispatch readiness.
• Book and manage container unload schedules and allocate the required resource effectively.

Performance & KPI Management

• Lead shift team performance to meet KPIs in productivity, accuracy, and efficiency.
• Collect and report shift performance metrics and suggest improvements to process or staffing.
• Support senior management in continuous improvement projects and the development of best practices.
• Identify and solve day-to-day issues promptly to ensure smooth operations.

Team Leadership & Development

• Steer, support, and develop team leads and operatives to meet operational and personal goals.
• Identify and address poor performance, absenteeism, and timekeeping in line with company policy.
• Promote and reward strong performance, developing talent for future progression.
• Collaborate with peers and cross-functional departments to deliver cohesive operational results.
• Contribute to building high morale and an inclusive, performance-driven culture.

Health, Safety & Housekeeping

• Maintain a clean, safe working environment across the site and yard.
• Ensure all team members wear appropriate PPE and adhere to H&S regulations.
• Report hazards and ensure team members follow safe manual handling techniques.
