Job Details Job Location: Warlick Family YMCA - Gastonia, NC 28054 Position Type: Part Time Salary Range: $12.82 - $15.05 Hourly Job Category: Education POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Youth & Family Director and consistent with the Gaston County Family YMCA Christian Mission, the afterschool staff is responsible for leading and building relationships with a group of children, while developing programming that is fun, culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and safe. They provide a quality experience to children and parents with a focus on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Afterschool coordinators strengthen their professional, interpersonal and management skills through daily responsibilities of the job. Afterschool programs are for kindergarteners through 8th grade and are held on-site at all three Gaston County Family YMCA locations: Cherryville, Stowe and Warlick. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Keep all children and staff safe in your care Assist in the oversight of the specific afterschool site to maintain quality and structure. Create, follow, and adjust a daily activity schedule that ensures all children are engaged in a fun, safe, and well-organized program experience. Maintain afterschool site attendance, behavior, and injury documentation. Download, manage and distribute after school records and enrollment rosters for afterschool sites. Work with the program director to keep track of supplies and snack inventory Plan, organize, and lead monthly family events and special activities that keep participants excited, connected, and engaged throughout the school year. Review, collaborate and approve required monthly paperwork at the afterschool site (supplies needs, activity plans, newsletters, calendars). Communicate with the Afterschool Director regarding payment, attendance or late parent issues. Return necessary forms regarding behavior reports or incident reports within 24 hours. Attend/support staff trainings and meetings Directly communicate with parents at the afterschool site to handle any immediate issues or concerns in a timely manner. Maintain effective communication with the Afterschool Director Supervise, motivate and evaluate afterschool staff at specific sites. Assist with the marketing of the afterschool program Assist with the annual giving campaign Supervise the maintenance of a clean and safe after school environment. Be a role model and set a great example for all children and staff in your area of influence Maintain excellent communication with all school personnel. Assist Afterschool Director with all trainings as directed Know all special needs of the children in your care. Support, role-model and implement Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards (HEPA). Responsible for planning program schedules and implementing character education into all programming. Implement all procedures for rides in and rides out. Responsible for ensuring that all participants' forms are current, complete and on file. Responsible for maintaining daily attendance, sign out sheets, accident reports, and implementing weekly lesson plans. Demonstrate ability to resolve conflict situations with students, staff and parents. Responsible for managing staff throughout the day. Maintaining ratios at all times. Follow all program guidelines,including, emergency procedures of the Gaston County Family YMCA Follow all Staff Code of Conduct rules signed at the date of hire. Must understand and communicate the YMCA mission in all we do. All other duties as assigned by the Afterschool Director. Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers Attend/complete required abuse risk management training before working with consumers and on an annual basis. QUALIFICATIONS Must be a minimum of 20 years of age High School Diploma or its equivalent. One year experience working with children Supervisory skills and basic computer skills preferred Child Abuse Prevention Training to be completed upon hire and annually. WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time. Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight. Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency. Qualifications
