Employee Contract Type: Local - Fixed Term Employee (Fixed Term) Job Description: Jobe Purpose The Wash Facilitator role is full time field role with 90% expectation in the field. This position will ensure that the WASH components of the project are implemented fully in accordance with the community needs and standards, in a timely manner. Ensuring community engagement and consultation is critical at all stages of implementation. He/she will be primarily responsible for conducting hygiene promotion and sanitation practices in target communities, while embracing the contextual needs, behaviour and practices. The role also underpins its great contribution in sustaining pf WASH activities in the project area while dealing with mindset change and acceptance in the community Major Responsibilities 50% Project Implementation In collaboration with other members of the WASH team, design and manage assessments and baseline studies to identify WASH-related health risks and priorities in the community Identify critical barriers to good hygiene practices within the community and design the response strategy and messages to fit the context Identify or develop culturally acceptable information education and communication (IEC) materials related to health education and hygiene promotion Adapt and develop training materials, Design appropriate training materials for use in local community development work and informal educational activities Provide behaviour change training in communities on hygiene practices such as hand washing with soap, water treatment, and latrine use. Conduct hygiene promotion for children through the approaches designed in the project Undertake the right hygiene promotion and sanitation marketing approaches as per the project design. Communities and local authorities and beneficiaries (particularly women, children and people with disabilities) are consulted to ensure that all training content and materials are appropriate for the target communities. Children within the project area understand the concept of hygiene best practices Contextualized approaches implemented in the communities Behavioural mindset changes registered with positive improvement 25% Capacity Building Establish and train volunteer WASH Groups and community mobilizers to conduct community hygiene promotion Conduct training to the WASH groups and community structures on key approaches including WASH UP! PHAST, CLTs program, etc Support WASH groups to conduct regular community-wide hygiene promotion sessions with different approaches as per the project and world vision requirement. Orient the WASH groups with all the data collection tools and reporting required Community structures trained and equipped with WASH knowledge to support implementation, monitoring and sustainability Contextualized WASH practices adopted by the community Correct data collection tools, verification and database are available on monthly basis. 10% Coordination and Representation In consultation with local authorities and beneficiaries (particularly women and people with disabilities), assist WV project Engineers, distribution coordinators to identify sites and target households for water resources construction and any related response to disease outbreak Develop and maintain good relationships and lines of communication with relevant local communities, explaining World Vision Afghanistan’s role as an NGO and liaising with them during all phases of the project Community leaders and communities were consulted and engaged throughout the project implementation Coordination with existing structures within the project area was strengthened. 10% Reporting and Monitoring Ensure baseline indicators for critical WASH component (Average lpd, Sanitation coverage, HW coverage and behavioural change are determined at the beginning of each project implementation. Report to the WASH Engineer the implementation of projects as planned according to developed technical standards, schedules and timelines. Update and prepare weekly reports on project progress. Work with Monitoring & Evaluation staff to regularly track and report on progress towards WV water, sanitation and hygiene targets. Ensure beneficiary data base for all activities are well documented – beneficiaries for household latrines support, hygiene promotion, water supply and WASH NFIs according to projects within the area. All communities within the target areas have baseline information for sanitation and hygiene promotion indicators Weekly reports on activities conducted shared with supervisor for comments and further advise Beneficiary data base are in place and updated on monthly basis according to projects within the area program Sanitation and hygiene matrix shared o monthly basis Joined community monitoring sessions on WASH service level in each community to inform future design and areas for improvement 5% Other Adhere to WV Child and Adult Safeguarding policy and standards. Adhere to WV accountability standards. To be aware and prepared to implement WV Afghanistan Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs plan under the context of designated area interventions KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE Required Professional Experience 1-3-years previous experience working with the hygiene and sanitation behaviour change approaches. 1-3 years of working with community mobilisation projects. Knowledge in sanitation and hygiene strategy Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification •Diploma in either Public Health, social science, or environmental science required. •Ability to engage and mobilise different community groups and leaders is a necessity. •Knowledge of important hygiene behaviours . Ms Office Applications Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications Ability to work in a team environment Previous Work experience in the WASH project is highly preferred. Willingness to travel throughout the project area is required, with familiarity with the project area preferred.
