SUMMARY

We are seeking a dedicated waste Collection Driver CAT C1 Refuse Collector to join our team in Rotherham. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team working throughout the borough delivering council services and responding to community priorities ensuring that the household waste collection service is completed with the daily task. Supervise waste crews and manage their day to day operational function’s (via paper records or electronic hand held device’s) including all Health & Safety relating to the daily tasks.

Responsibilities:-

  • Undertake operational duties which will involve a wide range of physically and mentally demanding tasks in all weathers.
  • Ensure the completion of all daily tasks while ensuring the safety of employees, colleagues, and members of the public including children; you will be responsible for the safe collection of bins along your route.
  • Understand the operation of mechanical machinery to facilitate emptying of refuse containers.
  • Be responsible for the careful day to day use, cleanliness, maintenance, security of vehicles/plant, machinery, and equipment provided to undertake the daily task. * Be customer focussed and deal with exchanges of information in a polite, courteous and positive manner responding to minor requests for service delivery and where necessary report problems to a supervisor or manager.
  • Work under the guidance of the line manager and by application of personal initiative to deliver services to a professional standard and within agreed procedures or timescales.
  • Work to agreed schedules and where necessary respond to new priorities as required or directed by line manager to ensure deadlines are met. * Demonstrate safe working practices, give advice and train other employees, apprentice’s, trainees and students where required.
  • Be responsible for the Health and Safety of all employees under your direct supervision
  • Adhere to Customer Care, Dignity at Work, Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, CPC and other relevant legislation, policies and procedures at all times
  • Undertake any duties commensurate with the post as requested by management

Education & Training:-

  • To hold a valid UK driving licence to ‘Category C1’ standard A/E/I E
  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) A/E/I E
  • To hold or a willingness to undertake Manual Handling A/I E
  • To hold or a willingness to undertake Needle Stick A/I E
  • To hold or a willingness to undertake IOSH Working Safely

Relevant Experience:-

  • Experience of working as a Team leader, Foreman or equivalent in a team environment.
  • Experience of working in a waste management environment and carrying out respective duties. A/I E
  • Experience of Health and Safety and how it applies to daily duties.

Skills & Abilities:-

  • Be able to communicate politely and effectively during the daily operational tasks.
  • The ability to interpret and act on verbal, written and electronically transmitted instructions( electronic hand held device’s)
  • Be able to demonstrate a positive commitment to work and give practical help to other when required.
  • Be able to consider and suggest methods to improve ways of working.
  • Be able to carry out a personal workload and take the responsibility for solving day to-day issues to ensure objectives are completed as required.
  • Ability to carry out safe working practices in accordance with H&S legislation.
