Your New Role:
As the Waste Compliance and Contracts Officer at KSC, your primary role is to ensure that Kempsey Shire’s waste facilities and services operate in accordance with regulatory compliance, whilst ensuring that the Council’s key waste, recycling, construction and maintenance contractors comply with contracted conditions.

As the Waste Compliance and Contracts Officer you will:

  • Ensure operations within the Waste Management Centre and the Waste Transfer Stations are legislatively compliant and efficient. In particular, all waste facilities should be compliant with Work Health and Safety (WHS, SafeWork) and environmental regulations (EPA) as well as Council’s operational licence requirements (EPL).
  • Ensure all waste services are operational.
  • Ensure all environmental and WHS documentation, policies, systems and work practices are up to date, compliant, effective and appropriately implemented.
  • ·Assist in project managing site improvements and waste projects that improve/achieve regulatory, site or contract compliance.
  • Improve the management of waste collection, disposal and recycling contracts to ensure quality service and best value is provided to the LGA.

About You:
To be successful in this role, you will possess tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in environmental management, waste management or a related discipline; contract and project management qualification and/or experience; demonstrated experience organising quotes, repairs and supervision of contractors/tradespeople; ability to observe details, record information in an accurate and legible manner and write reports; and ability to review, amend and implement safety procedures and documents such as SWMS, Risk Assessments and SOP’s.
You will also possess high level computer skills, demonstrated superior communication skills, demonstrated ability to operate as a member of a team which has diverse and demanding responsibilities within a high demand work area, and a commitment to upholding our organisation’s values.
