Description
This is a hands-on, purpose-driven role where your work will be felt across the community. As Waste Minimisation Officer, you will deliver key streams of work within the Joint Waste Management and Minimisation Plan (WMMP) - turning strategy into practical action that reduces waste, improves resource recovery, and supports a cleaner, more sustainable Napier. Reporting to the Resource Recovery & Commercial Services Manager and working closely with the Senior Waste Minimisation Officer, you will be a key contributor to delivering real, measurable outcomes. You’ll work across Napier City Council, alongside contractors, businesses, mana whenua and communities, to deliver practical programmes that make it easier for people to reduce waste and do the right thing. This role suits someone who enjoys working at the intersection of community engagement, projects and environmental outcomes - balancing thinking, doing, and influencing to achieve real-world results. Te Āheinga - The Opportunity Deliver priority actions from the Joint Waste Management & Minimisation Plan, translating strategy into practical, on-the-ground outcomes Lead waste education and behaviour change initiatives across schools, businesses, marae and community groups Work directly with iwi, hapū, mana whenua and Māori organisations to co-design and deliver initiatives that reflect local priorities Manage and coordinate waste minimisation projects, contractors, funding and reporting Use data and insights to monitor progress, measure impact and inform continuous improvement Manage and promote the local Waste Minimisation Fund, supporting community-led waste reduction initiatives Support Council waste services through education, engagement and identification of service improvement opportunities Build strong working relationships across Council, with contractors, regional partners and community stakeholders Represent Council at community events, forums and engagement opportunities Contribute to regionally aligned waste minimisation programmes and collaboration with other councils He kōrero mōhou - About You You’re someone who enjoys working with people and making change happen. You will be based in Napier. The annual salary package for this role is $79,091 - $93,048 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
