We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced person to join the team as a Waste Response Officer. Our Waste Response team is responsible for responding to reports of illegal dumping in residential areas and educating community members on responsible waste disposal. The team's primary aims is to restore and maintain the amenity of public spaces throughout Hume City Council through education, and only removing waste if required. What you’ll be doing: Undertake waste and litter collection programs with an emphasis on resource recovery, including: Illegally dumped waste inspection, taping and notification Door knocking and educating community members about correct waste disposal Dumped waste and litter collection (including from roadsides) Public open space and reserves cleaning Carry out all activities in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation, policies, and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for self, staff, contractors, and the general public. Undertake safe operation of all types of waste and litter collection vehicles and equipment. Ensure allocated vehicle is cleaned and disinfected at the completion of each shift. Conduct pre-start checks and perform routine daily maintenance in accordance with approved maintenance programs. Respond to customer enquiries and requests, promptly assisting and providing helpful information. Complete administrative activities relevant to the position, including but not limited to, daily timesheets, running sheets, pre-start checks, and risk assessments. The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role: Proficiency in the utilisation of plant and equipment with emphasis on waste and litter collection vehicles. Ability to plan, program and monitor the progress of works and programs including being proficient in maintaining accurate records of works either manually or in an electronic format. Commitment to multi-skilling and associated training to support departmental service delivery and enhance own skills. Commitment to positive and helpful customer service. Ability to gain cooperation and communicate both verbally and in written form with a diverse range of people. Capable team player who supports others and contributes to a positive workplace culture. Required Certifications & Qualifications: Certificate II or III in Waste Management (desirable) or substantial knowledge and experience in the field of waste and litter bin collection and disposal operations, resource recovery practices and/or relevant cleansing/maintenance activities.
