Description:
Do you want to work in an environment where you will be responsible for providing project management oversight for the operations budget, including regular reporting using Earned Value Management System metrics, execution of projects necessary to continue to improve the Waste Treatment Centre facility operations, and direction and oversight for an integrated scheduling process for facility operations, maintenance and project activities? Our Chalk River location is looking for a Waste Treatment Centre (WTC) Project Manager to be responsible for the administration of the project that represents WTC Operations and associated small projects required to maintain or continuously improve facility operations to support its ongoing mission. Responsibilities:
- Management of WTC Operations Schedule, costs, and improvement projects to support excellence in Operations:
- Establishing expectations for operations schedule preparation, adhering to guidelines for facility operation to support the requirements of facility users, and managing ongoing maintenance or upgrade work.
- Authorizing project expenditures and procurement requisitions, e.g., purchase orders, invoices and expense claims within higher limits of authority.
- Using business and management principles, managing operations costs, advising on planning, budgeting, and resource allocation, and guiding the progress of projects through planning, establishing costs, and scheduling. Facilitating projects efficiently through Gating and Sanctioning may be necessary depending on requirements.
- Providing effective and relevant communications on project status, issues and progress to WTC Management or WTC staff, as required.
- Coordinating with other functional managers (Engineering, Safety & Licensing, Procurement, QA, Planning and Control, Construction/Installation) to ensure that functional resource requirements necessary to support the WTC schedule are planned in accordance with Program delivery requirements, and that Program-specific aspects of functional resources are implemented.
- Supporting the WTC leadership team staff to deliver quality results on time and on budget, and coaching/mentoring others for success:
- Managing the collective and individual performance of any project team members through establishing relevant performance objectives and providing both formal and informal performance feedback (appraisal), mentoring and guidance to ensure team success.
- Defining roles and responsibilities and managing performance, including discipline, appraisals and merit allocations. Providing constructive feedback including disciplinary action if required or the termination/re-negotiation of external contracts.
- Supporting WTC Operations staff in compliance with established schedules while maintaining agility in responding to unplanned operational upsets and issues.
- Leading and managing key operations improvement or life-extension projects:
- Managing, coordinating, and administering WTC projects from the conceptual stages through planning, establishing cost and budget, engineering, procurement, construction, start-up and project closeout, and to all relevant quality standards.
- Progressing large projects through the CNL Gating and Sanctioning process as required.
- Identifying areas for continuous improvement or implementation of efficiencies within the operations schedule or project execution (eg review of scope, strategic alignment of operations activities, coordination of resources, use of contractors).
- Responsibilities for project reporting and communication:
- Monitoring and reporting the overall progress of projects within the Program, conducting reviews to verify outputs are aligned with plans while ensuring that significant variances and trends are investigated.
- Establishing and maintaining a strong and effective customer relationship.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
