Position: Wastewater Collection and Rehab Superintendent Pay Classification: Exempt Job Classification: Full-time Pay Grade: U-8 Location: 600 Redreyer Lane, Danville, Ky., 40422 Department: Wastewater Collection and Rehabilitation Responsible To: Municipal Utilities Director Position Summary: Under general supervision of the Municipal Utilities Director. Assist in overseeing every aspect of the City’s Wastewater Collection System. An employee in this class must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgement. Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes. Duties/Responsibilities: · Carry out administrative and program standards for various Wastewater Collection activities and services. · Advises subordinates on operating problems and assists in resolving such problems. · Supervises subordinates, including but not limited to Assistant Wastewater Collection Superintendent, Wastewater Collection Operators, Operator Trainees, Maintenance Workers, and Technicians in carrying out daily activities. · Provide assistance in the field to Wastewater Collection Operators as needed. · Handles much of the paperwork involved in the day-to-day operation of the Wastewater Collection System. · Responsible for development of all Standard Operating Procedures for the Wastewater Collection and Rehab Department. · Provide guidance and training opportunities for all Wastewater Collection personnel. · Responsible for wastewater collection and rehab compliance for the City. · Performs other duties as required. Requirements Required Skills/Abilities: · Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the daily operation and maintenance of a Wastewater Collection System. · Ability to lead and develop subordinate staff. · Strong independent decision making abilities. · Knowledge of occupational safety practices and principles. · Ability to work with minimal supervision. · Strong working knowledge of the geography of The City of Danville · Ability to work in a team environment, with the ability to work across all levels of City officials, employees, agencies, organizations, and the general public. · Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as job duties demand. · Strong verbal and written communication skills. · Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather. · Must be able to come to work promptly and regularly. · Must be able to work scheduled hours as required. · Must be able to take direction and work well with others. · Assist the Wastewater Collection Superintendent in carrying out the administrative duties. · Must be able to advise subordinates on major operating problems and assist in the solution. · Must be able to supervise subordinates in their working environment when needed. · Must be able to work under the stress of deadlines. · Must be able to concentrate and perform accurately. · Must be able to react to change productively and to handle other tasks as assigned. · Dealing directly with the public. · Handles customer questions and complaints as required. · Capability of driving trucks both large and small. · Using heavy equipment. · Must maintain a valid driver's license. · Ability to follow oral and written instructions. · Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors, fellow workers, and the public. · Ability to read and write. · Ability to walk and climb up and down ladders and over rough and irregular ground surfaces High level of multi-tasking. · Must have good communication skills. · Must be able to stand or sit, walk, bend perform repetitive movements for long periods of time. · Ability to read and understand maps and blueprints/plans. · Must be able to inspect water lines and all system appurtenances. · Must be able to prepare reports as required. · Must have general knowledge of City Purchasing Policy. · Performs other work as required. Education and Experience: · High School Diploma or equivalent · Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, biology or similar field is preferred. · 3-5 years of water distribution experience is required. · Must possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license Certifications: · Class IV Wastewater Collection License is required. Physical Requirements: · Must have 20/20 vision with or without corrective lenses. · Must have adequate hearing levels with or without assistance in order to alarms and laboratory measuring equipment. · Standing for prolonged periods of time. · Ability to lift up to 70lbs occasionally. · Twisting, stooping, bending, and walking on a regular basis. · Ability to crawl in and out of tight and confined spaces. · Ability to climb up and down ladders, and over rough and irregular ground surfaces. Compensation: · $57,996 - $85,473 annually · Candidate's starting salary will be commensurate with their level of wastewater treatment experience.
