Description
The Opportunity: The Wastewater Collections Foreperson is responsible for enacting the overall field operations of the Wastewater Collection, Stormwater Collection, and Source Control programs under the guidance of the Lead Operator - Wastewater Collection. Responsibility includes assisting with the management of work plans and schedules, training, program administration, budgeting, and backfill coverage for Lead Operator - Wastewater Collection.  Support duties include record review, monitoring compliance, determine infractions, and respond to Utility Bylaw infractions. Position will comply with regulations, policies, and procedures, plan the day-to-day, assist with long-term operations, provide direction, guidance, support and leadership to staff. Also provides Bylaw enforcement pertaining to the Utility Bylaw. Top Key Responsibilities: * Coordinate and prioritize daily wastewater collection activities, ensuring work is completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulations, bylaws, and City standards.  * Conduct inspections, audits, and investigations (including spills and bylaw infractions), analyze data, and maintain accurate regulatory records.  * Provide leadership, training, and mentorship to staff, promoting a safe, respectful, and high-performing work environment.  * Support operational planning by assisting with work plans, budgets, capital needs, and continuous improvement initiatives, including safety and emergency preparedness programs.  * Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and the public to deliver responsive customer service, enforce compliance, and provide technical guidance. As our preferred candidate, you will have: * Grade 12 or equivalent * Education or training in a one (1) year water/ wastewater related technical program preferred * Unrestricted Wastewater Collection level 4 Alberta Environment Operator’s Certification or equivalent with a requirement to achieve within 4 years * Must successfully pass all safety certificate courses currently required and others to be defined by the Province or by the City **Other combinations of education and experience may be considered * Valid Class 5 Alberta’s Driver’s License * Valid Class 3 with Q endorsement is preferred * Minimum of six (6) years’ experience in planning and operating processes of municipal infrastructure in a Level III or IV certified system or equivalent * Two (2) years of supervisory experience and demonstrated knowledge of appropriate supervision of a respectful and inclusive workplace * Supervisory experience in operating underground systems preferred Affiliation:  Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 417  Status: Regular Full-time Remuneration:  $42.11 to $47.85 per hour  Hours of Work:  80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, some evening and weekend work may be required when needed.
