Job Summary: The wastewater plant operator performs technical work for the operation of the wastewater treatment plant. Work involves making necessary adjustments, testing to ensure the plant produces adequate quality and quantity of water, and performing routine maintenance by greasing bearings, changing oil, cleaning, and inspecting plant equipment as required.   Additional Essential Knowledge: * DHEC regulations and monitoring requirements. * SCADA * MSDS  * Equipment manual and operation. * Operation of equipment including skid steer, belt press, hand and power tools, and ground maintenance light equipment.   Duties/Responsibilities: * Uses plant SCADA systems; monitors flow rates and chemical dosages to maintain the necessary quality of water to meet SCDES NPDES permit requirements * Visually inspect all areas of the water plant for proper operation. * Replenishes chemicals in hoppers, day tanks, barrels, and gas cylinders. * Performs preventative maintenance on wastewater plant buildings, grounds, and equipment. * Performs safety inspections and maintains proper safety records. * Performs basic laboratory process control tests as required. * Comply with SCDES NPDES permit requirements Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  * Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  * Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. * Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. * MSDS & equipment manuals * Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Wonderware, SCADA, service reports, invoices, lab reports, and work orders.     Minimum Education, Certifications, and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to attain Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator ‘D’ Certification within the first 6 months of employment. Valid SC driver's license.   Preferred Education, Certifications, and Experience: Associate's degree in chemistry, science, or a similar field.  Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator ‘D’ Certification One to two years of experience in wastewater treatment operations.   Work Schedule and Overtime: Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm Must be able to work on-call on a rotating basis. Subject to a 24-hour callback.  Must be able to operate the plant under any conditions due to the loss of automatic control or other emergencies, or non-routine situations.   Physical Demands/Requirements:  Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to walk, reach, stoop, bend, crouch, and balance in excess of sedentary work, at times. Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.    Performs other duties as needed. Hourly Pay Range: $19.15 - $25.00/hour based on experience, certifications, and education.
